We spread the public statement of solidarity produced by the Finnish anarchist
collective "A-ryhma" which we contacted when the fight against the dismissalsdecided by Warsila in Trieste began. We think it is important to disseminate thisstatement which is the first gesture of internationalist solidarity from Finland.---- Below is the translation into Italian and English and at the bottom theoriginal text in Finnish with the links to the social networks where it waspublished. ---- Germinal Anarchist Group ---- A-ryhma in solidarity with* worker*from Trieste fighting against Wärtsilä! ---- In July Wärtsilä announced theclosure of their engine production and the layoff of 451 workers and therelocation of production to Vaasa. The decision was not made in consultation withthe Italian unions, making it illegal.A large working class movement was formed to resist the factory closure. Aprotest with 15,000 union members was held in early September. * workers* of thefactory also founded the autonomous collective "Wartsila Workers' Collective".Some citizen organizations have joined the resistance, such as Fridays for Future@fridaysforfuture.trieste.The unions filed a lawsuit, and on 23 September, Wärtsilä lost. The 451 layoffswere reversed. The court ordered Wärtsilä to pay compensation of €50,000 to eachunion involved in the lawsuit, and to negotiate with the unions thereorganization of production. We support the workers of Trieste in their struggle for work. Modern, functioningmanufacturing should never be sacrificed for short-term profits. One of the keyreasons Wartsila moves production to Finland may be that the dismissal laws aremore lax in Finland. We do not accept capitalists rushing wherever the workingclass is easier to oppress. Betting on the price of* workers* only serves theinterests of* capitalists* while at the same time deteriorating the lives andpolitical power of the working class. The destruction of hundreds of people'sincome cannot be the basis for the development of Wärtsilä production.Unions in Finland should wake up and take on international responsibilities.Infighting over short-term jobs doesn't benefit the labor movement. Instead, international solidarity and cooperation is needed to eliminate the loopholesthat benefit the capitalists and prevent capital from leaving nothing butdestruction in its wake after profits are made in the country with the highestprofit margins. Production development and investments are possible even withoutdrastic production stops in existing factories.Victory to * worker * of Trieste!Suomeksi alempana!Supporting the workers of Trieste in the fight against Wärtsilä!In July Wärtsilä announced the shut down of their engine manufacturing and thefiring of 451 workers while moving production to Vaasa. The decision was not madeuniformly with the Italian workers' unions, making it illegal.A massive working class movement has formed to resist the closing of the factory.A protest consisting of 15 000 trade union members of the field was held in thebeginning of September. The factory workers have also founded an autonomouscollective. The resistance has been joined by the city's other organizations suchas Fridays For Future Trieste. The unions sued and on September 23rd Wärtsilä lost the case. The 451 employmentterminations were called off. The court ordered Wärtsilä to pay a compensation of50 000€ to every union involved in the lawsuit and to negotiate with the unionsabout the rearrangement of production. We support the workers of Triste in their fight for their jobs. We do not accept capitalists running to whereverthe working class is the easiest to oppress. Bidding on the price of workersserves only the interests of capitalists while deteriorating the lives andpolitical power of the working class. Destroying the income of hundreds can notbe the basis for Wärtsilä's production development.Finland's trade unions should wake up and take international responsibility.Short term fighting for jobs does not benefit the workers' movement. In steadinternational solidarity and co-operation is needed in order to close theloopholes benefiting capitalists and preventing capital from leaving nothing butdestruction behind after the profits have been made in the country with thebiggest profit margins. Production development and investments are possibleeven without drastic manufacturing shutdown in existing factories.Victory for the workers of Trieste!Group AAll support for the workers of Trieste in the struggle against Wärtsilä!Wärtsilä announced in July that it would close the engine factory in Trieste,Italy, lay off 451 employees and concentrate production in Vaasa. The decisionwas illegal, because similar reorganizations in Italy must be done in cooperationwith the trade unions. In Trieste, a huge working-class movement has arisen against the closing of thefactory. At the beginning of September, a joint demonstration of all trade unionsoperating in the sector gathered 15,000 demonstrators. The factory workers havealso founded an autonomous collective, Colletivo lavoratori Wartsila, and othermovements in the city, such as Fridays For Future, have joined it in the resistance. On September 23, Wärtsilä lost the lawsuit brought by the unions. 451 dismissalswere cancelled, and the court ordered Wärtsilä to pay 50,000 euros incompensation for its crimes to each union that participated in the lawsuit. Thecompany must also negotiate with the unions again about the reorganization ofproduction. We support the struggle of the workers of Trieste for their jobs. Functional andmodern production should not be destroyed for the sake of short-term profit. Oneof the reasons for moving Wärtsilä's engine production from Italy to Finland maybe Finland's favorable dismissal regulations. We do not accept the race ofcapitalists to where the workers can be best subjugated. Competing the workersonly serves the interests of the capitalists, weakening the life and politicalpower of the working class. The development of Wärtsilä's production cannothappen by destroying the livelihood of hundreds of people.Finnish trade unions should also wake up to international responsibility. It isnot in the interests of the labor movement to engage in short-sighted mutualcompetition for jobs. Instead, the labor movement needs international solidarityand cooperation, to close the gaps in the working conditions favorable to thecapitalists and to prevent capital from leaving only destruction behind, when thequick profits are wrapped up in the country of the best profit ratio. Thedevelopment of production and investments are also possible without drasticallyreducing production in already existing factories.Victory for the workers of Trieste!Group Ahttps://germinalts.noblogs.org/post/2022/11/12/solidarieta-dalla-finlandia-a-lavoratr-della-wartsila/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
