The Leghorn Anarchist Federation and the Libertarian Anarchist Collective reject
the attempts to criminalize the anarchist movement. The front page of Il Tirrenoon November 4th was entitled "Fires at the antennas, anarchist trail". Thearticle that followed in the local news of Livorno reiterated the title"Repeaters and control units on fire: now the ANARCHIC TRACK" appears with thelast two words in red. ---- In the article, different episodes are put together,from electrical control units burned to the fire of some makeshift homes, to eventhe fire of a camper that caused the intoxication of a man who fortunatelysurvived. ---- The article does not refer to any claims, nor to clues or reasonsthat should indicate the "anarchist trail". Only at the opening is reported that"The anarchist trail is the one followed by the digos". Without even citing astatement from the investigators.This was enough for Il Tirreno to create such a title. We know well that thechoice of titles, especially the front page, is not accidental. It is not just aquestion of incompetence but of a precise political choice.The editorial choice of such a title on the front page, as well as being purelyfree, appears to be seriously damaging to all those who recognize themselves inthe anarchist movement daily carry out their political action withincoordinations, trade unions, committees, and situations of social struggle. Wereject these accusations which have the sole purpose of criminalizing those whoare active on the territory every day. People who know us know how absurd theseassumptions are. If it were not a question of serious issues, such hypotheseswould be ridiculous even for the stereotypical formulas used. But it is even moreabsurd to trace these facts back to the anarchist movement. The anarchists are atthe side of those who fight for the house, there are others in this country whoset fire to campers, caravans and makeshift lodgings.It is not new that against the anarchist movement there are periodically set-upsand criminalization campaigns, to which anarchists and anarchists have alwaysbeen able to give a firm response by finding the solidarity of large socialsectors. We do not want to be reminded of the strategy of tension and the manyblack pages in the history of this country. The current political moment, in itsspecificity, tends to reproduce patterns already seen and to look for a mediasounding board in the press as well.It makes us think that precisely on November 4, while anti-militarist initiativesare being held in Livorno and throughout the country, which see the anarchistmovement engaged alongside many political and social components, these titles arepublished. The Tyrrhenian Sea should explain the reasons for this editorialchoice. Anarchists and anarchists today as yesterday do not allow themselves tobe intimidated and are more present than ever in the struggles.
