Russian-Ukrainian conflict. ---- This conflict is only the latest of those
supported and fought by the West, and sees NATO on one side and Russia with its
satellite countries on the other. Thousands and thousands of Ukrainian civilians
massacred, hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing the conflict who, deserters,
fleeing conscription.
We are witnessing an unprecedented race to rearmament and increase in military
spending around the world. In Italy, military spending has never seen a reduction
even in time of a pandemic. New military bases such as that of Coltano are born,
while the existing ones are used as outposts for missions in Ukraine and
throughout the Mediterranean. The military insinuates themselves into schools,
and school-work alternation can be done in the barracks, in order to immerse the
younger generations more and more in the militarist culture.
Along with militarism, a toxic culture is spreading more and more, which finds
its natural environment in authoritarianism and patriarchy, with all the
consequences that gender-based violence, social control and the militarization of
territories exert on our lives. Repressive policies against migrants continue,
inhumane agreements with Libya and Turkey for the control of routes are renewed,
while the state does almost nothing to reduce the illegal hiring and guarantee
decent working conditions.
This dramatic reality is accompanied by that of the growing exploitation and
progressive impoverishment of the working classes, already marked by years of
economic crisis and pandemic.
We invite everyone and everyone to participate in the itinerant garrison
organized in the squares of Reggio on the afternoon of Saturday 5 November. Sand
and not oil in the engine of militarism.
