In November 1926, following the promulgation of fascist laws, Picelli was
deprived of any parliamentary mandate, he was then arrested and sentenced to five
years of exile, which he served in Lampedusa and Lipari, after having spent seven
months in prison in Syracuse and Milazzo. He moved to France at the beginning of
1932 and traveled to Belgium and then to the USSR. before enlisting in 1936 in
the international brigades within the Garibaldi battalion. He died on the front
in January 1937.

Antonio Cieri for his part went into exile in 1923. He continued his activity as
an anarchist militant and created the newspaper L'Umanità nova in Paris in 1925
then La Protesta and La vecchia Umanità nova in the early 1930s with Camillo
Berneri. Active in Italian anarchist circles, he went to Barcelona at the end of
1936 and joined the Italian section of the Columna Ascaso (Column Ascaso)
cenetist brigade, within the Giustizia e Libertá battalion led by Carlo Rosselli.
He fell in combat on the Aragon front in April 1937 during the assault for the
capture of Huesca, which was finally conquered by anti-fascist formations.
