However, acts of desertion and refusal to draft also continue which, if
widespread, could lead to the end of the war. Central European anarchists launch
this call to organize active support for deserters. Wherever we live, let's make
every other day a day of international proletarian solidarity and resistance
against war. Let's organize in workplaces, schools and on the streets to
reinforce the importance of desertions. We fight for decent conditions for all
those who refuse to serve as cannon fodder in this inter-imperialist war.

At least 200,000 people are fleeing Russia to avoid Putin's military
mobilization, and tens of thousands more are avoiding mobilization in Ukraine.
Yet some voices argue that "the number of deserters is so negligible that it
shouldn't even be mentioned." These cynical attempts to "make invisible" people
who choose not to serve in the military, to desert or to emigrate to other
countries for political reasons must be resisted. Their voice must be heard and
they must be able to receive concrete help.

Anti-war speeches do not yet have the subversive force necessary to stop it, so
it is necessary to create the conditions that make the transition from reflection
to action easier for all those people who are thinking of deserting. It's not
about putting yourself in the front line between the tanks of the two armies and
thinking that this will make the soldiers lay down their arms. It is about
creating conditions internationally to ensure that deserters can defect safely
and live in another country without the risk of being prosecuted and socially
stigmatized.

Currently, the opponents of the war in Russia and Ukraine have almost nowhere to
go. They are trapped between national borders by their own governments, while
neighboring countries refuse to accept them and provide them with decent living
conditions. If people's choices remain limited to the options "either be forced
to serve in the military or face persecution", we cannot expect an increase in
desertions. It is necessary to get the borders open not only for civilian
refugees, but also for deserters from armies on both sides of the war line. It is
precisely this that can significantly weaken the dynamics of the conflict.

But this will never happen through negotiation with the various governments that
are only the stooges of the state and capital, nor through a social democratic
appeal to "make concessions in the field of migration policy". The only weapon,
for us proletarians, is the class struggle, it is the mobilization in the
streets, it is the sabotage of the economy, it is the direct action against the
permanent war... It is then, and only then, that the frightened ruling class it
will be forced to let go, which will never be the objective of the struggle for
us, but only a moment from which to start with new offensives against this world
made of misery and war...

After all, the proclamations of politicians criticizing the aggression of the
Russian army are only the expression of a widespread hypocrisy, as they refuse to
share material conditions and resources with those who refuse to serve in the
army. On the other hand, how else should these worthy representatives of the
bourgeois order act? It is necessary to line up consistently against Putin's
aggressors, as well as against the statesmen of other countries who, with their
policies, allow the army to maintain its war potential. It is the governments of
the countries in which we live that actually make desertion more difficult, thus
contributing to the continuation of the war.

Those who are concerned with saving lives should think about how to weaken the
fighting capacity of armies, how to drive soldiers away from the front lines, how
to make them disobey, how to motivate them to use weapons against those who force
them to go to war. Let's reflect on this and organize direct actions that
transform these considerations into concrete results.
