The 2022 World Cup failed on so many levels.
It may seem like an eternity ago, but it's only been a few weeks since Qatari authorities were roughing up fans, denying entry to journalists and kicking out folks wearing anything even resembling a rainbow.
And if it wasn't for you, much of the world wouldn't even have known about all the hate and homophobia that was going on inside the FIFA World Cup. Thank you! 💓
In fact, our petition, started by Dr. Nas Mohamed – who bravely came out as an openly gay Qatari man – helped drive important conversations around Qatar, FIFA and LGBT+ rights. And it was signed by nearly 100,000 people around the world!
Take a look at some of the moments you helped make possible:
We knew that going head-to-head with one of the world's most powerful sports bodies and an authoritarian regime in Qatar would not be easy.
That's why support from All Out members around the world is critical if we want to make a difference. Already, we've accomplished so much:
- We held a powerful action in Zürich outside the FIFA Museum, demanding accountability from FIFA;
- We shared emotional testimonials from brave LGBT+ Qataris still inside the country;
- We helped shine a light on the hate and homophobia taking place inside the 2022 World Cup;
- And, we're already taking the next steps to prevent a repeat of such a dangerous World Cup for LGBT+ folks and fans.
But we're not done with FIFA yet. FIFA must still be held accountable for their hypocrisy and inaction. That's where you come in.
Over 9,000 people have signed our petition, demanding FIFA never again host their tournaments in LGBTphobic and human rights-abusing countries. Can we count on you to add your voice?
| Absolutely, I'll sign now! |
