since The Possibility of Fascism (La Découverte, 2018). In this, informed

works, the format obliges, the author got rid of his Marxist dross - not always
neither very fine nor very convincing - in his desire to renew the analysis of
contemporary fascism, while by following the Trotskyist tradition.

And if the lesson giving side - or programmatic, everyone will make up their own
mind - is still present in the very short final chapter, written in " here's what
to do " mode, the whole book is accessible and convincing in its attempt to
define and describe neo-fascism.

If Ugo Palheta had moderately convinced us as a sharp analyst of the fascist
phenomenon, he shows himself to be a rather convincing popularizer. The work,
divided into ten chapters, goes straight to the point and properly defines its
object, neo-fascism, essentially from the French case.

In conclusion, it is important to note with Palheta that the fascist phenomenon
exists, that if it does not emerge under the same conditions as in the 1920s and
1930s, it retains fundamental traits: the promise to establish a new and at the
same time to defend the " natural " social order. Fascism is " a false subversion
  " and a " true ultra-conservatism " which, once in power, has always "
systematically reinforced the elites in place  " and " accentuated the hierarchies ".
