is the text we are spreading these days: ---- Against 41 bis ---- Against
anti-anarchist repression ---- For a society without prisons ---- Prison is a
total institution, product of a society based on domination and exploitation. Far
from being a solution to social problems, it represents one of the many faces of
state violence. ---- In Italy the conditions of detention in prisons have been
steadily worsening for years: overcrowding and physical and psychological abuse
are the "normality" of an increasingly intolerable situation, and this is proved
by the increasingly numerous suicides.
The conditions of existence of those who find themselves under the 41bis or High
Surveillance regime are even more unacceptable. In these cases we can speak of
real psychophysical torture due to the very heavy conditions of isolation and
deprivation.

Life imprisonment as well as article 41 bis are institutionalized horror,
unworthy of any society. Beyond the hairy proclamations on the need to 'recover'
the prisoner to normal social life, these sentences inflicted reveal the
consideration the ruling classes hold in those who fall into the networks of
their 'justice': waste to be isolated in that landfill society that are prisons.
Even the Constitutional Court noticed it, declaring these measures
unconstitutional as early as 2021. The new Government, continuing the practice of
the previous ones, instead reiterated the application of the life sentence.

For years we have been witnessing the particular fury of repressive institutions
against the anarchist movement with ever more imaginative judicial theorems and
ever heavier sentences even for episodes of normal social conflict. In fact, the
"penal law of the enemy" is applied to the anarchist movement on the basis of
which one is judged not so much for the actions committed but for one's own ideas.
This fury also reverberates against the prisoners who claim their anarchist ideal
and who, more and more often, are subjected to the harshest prison regimes, most
recently the 41bis.
On October 20, Alfredo Cospito began a hunger strike to the bitter end to be
removed from the 41Bis regime, while other * prisoners * also began a hunger
strike in solidarity.

We support their struggle as well as all the struggles carried out by prisoners
in all prisons to demand less oppressive conditions of existence, for the
definitive closure of the 41bis and other special prison regimes.

In our history we have known the barbarity of wicked laws, confinement, exile,
physical elimination; they have never succeeded in their intent: the hunger for
freedom and social justice is stronger than anything.
