5 and a half months of hunger strike, a hard, long protest that brought the
partisanship of Italian justice into the open and the de facto legalization oftorture through the 41 bis regime and life imprisonment. Thanks to AlfredoCospito, the whole of Italy has discovered the existence of an invisible, forgotten and removed world called prison, where the state puts its revenge intopractice. The hypocrisy of those who flaunt articles of the Constitution thattalk about the rehabilitation of prisoners has been unmasked, the veil has beenlifted on the complicity that all parties have in this system, slices of societythat think with their bellies, intellectuals forcaioli, fascists hidden undervarious remains, mass media, anti-mafia officials always ready to applaud theforces of order and the judiciary. Thanks to Cospito, the more than 750 individuals buried in the 41 bis tomb wereable to have a voice denouncing their daily torture, the deprivation of the mostelementary rights, also exercised on elderly and sick people.Alfredo's strength is his extraneousness to the market of compromises, it ishaving posed a substantial and not a personal problem; he is having dismantledthe continuous emergencies of Italian legislation; having indicated ways out thatthe State does not want to accept, on pain of having to commit the sin of givingin to an anarchist: the release of older and sick prisoners in 41 bis, to atleast let them die at home. A gesture that we could define as "of mercy" thatthis state does not want to make because its reason, the reason of the strongest, and its principle of intransigence, must not show weaknesses of any kind.Better the hard line, much better a dead anarchist. By throwing a new martyr tothe anarchists, they will be pushed to go wild in the squares or in the mostvaried protest actions, and then the State, its government, its police forces, its judiciary will be ready to fulfill their task of repressors, restorers of theviolated order, hunters of subversives. Dead Cospito is more functional to theState than a living and perhaps victorious Cospito. To hell with the criminalsand "terrorists" condemned to the slow death of 41 bis, to hell with theguarantors who care about it and to hell with those four judges who expressedperplexity about the whole affair by requesting the cancellation of 41 bis forAlfredo. The state, and the fascists in government, know that time is playing in theirfavor and await either the capitulation of Cospito or his end.Media attention has already waned; the stable orders are clear: talk about it andwrite about it as strictly necessary. In January it was the squares activated bythe anarchists that imposed that the silence be broken, bringing out all the mudthat the issue drags with it.One of the arguments used by Nordio and the magistrates is the collaboration ofCospito, from prison, with the magazine Vetriolo; collaboration, moreover, subjected to preventive censorship. They said he gave orders to the outside likeany mafia boss. As if there was only one anarchist in the world who could take orgive orders from or to another anarchist. But even this pretext fell apart a fewweeks ago, when the Court of Review of Perugia canceled for the second time theprecautionary custody order against Alfredo and five other people in relation tothe articles published in the magazine Vetriolo, exposing the infamous operationaimed at causing the death of Alfredo. On March 27, the surveillance courts of Milan and Sassari rejected the requestfor house arrest made by the partner's lawyers, since his health conditions arethe result of his deliberate choices. But this was only an obligatory step toallow defense lawyers to take international judicial proceedings. In addition tothe UN, the EU has also expressed itself in favor of calling into question the 41bis in Italy. Now it's up to the anarchist movement to know how to play its part in a storythat can involve hundreds of thousands of people; it is no longer a question oflooking at the areas of belonging, whose freedom of action is not in any case inquestion. It is a question of taking advantage of a consensus that Alfredo'sstruggle has helped to build and of putting in place a shock force capable oftearing him away from the 41 bis and canceling the hard prison, whatever it iscalled.Alfredo must live.Pippo Gurrierihttps://www.sicilialibertaria.it/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
