WORLD WORLDWIDE ANIMALS NetworkforAnimals News Journal Update - Your Donations in ACTION May 2023

Your Donations In ACTION
May 2023

Dear friends

In May, your support once again touched the lives of animals who have seldom known human kindness. Here are the animals your support helped in May.

Hidalgo, Mexico

Providing street dogs like brutally blinded Molly with critically needed care

In Mexico, an estimated 18 to 20 million abandoned street dogs roam the streets unsterilized, in desperate search of food and shelter. Mexico is one of the worst nations for abusing animals, and countless street dogs fall victim to terrible maltreatment. One tragic example is Molly, who was rushed to our partner clinic, the Fiona Animal Refuge (FAR), after being hit on the back of her head with such force that it caused both eyes to bulge out of their sockets. Tragically, the vet could not save her eyes, and both had to be surgically removed. Molly will be blind for the rest of her life.

We helped our partner save Molly and she has now found a forever home, but she is just one of millions of abandoned and abused animals suffering terribly in impoverished areas. Thanks to your support, we are providing FAR with ongoing support to rescue, treat, sterilize and rehome the desperately needy street dogs of Mexico.

Three legs, big heart - giving Frida the dog a second chance

Frida – unwanted, dumped, and hit by a car – was in urgent need of a leg amputation and critical care. Your heart went out to her and through your support, we will be able to cover the cost of her surgery and long-term rehabilitation - including fitting her with a prosthetic leg! The last item on her wish list? A loving home of her own.

Funding Ping Ping the street dog’s surgery for an agonizing prolapsed uterus

Recently, our dedicated partners at the Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary performed an emergency surgery to save the life of Ping Ping, a street dog suffering from the most grotesque and surely excruciating affliction. A miscarriage had left rotting tissue inside her body, causing a giant prolapsed uterus that pushed the poor pup’s swollen and infected bladder outside her body. Fortunately - thanks to our fast-acting partner and resources from previous, caring generosity like yours - Ping Ping pulled through! But she is still suffering from severe anemia, infection and a separate hernia.

Through your support, we were able to contribute towards Ping Ping’s long-term recovery, including critically needed medicines, food and an additional surgery. Thank you for being a friend to poor Ping Ping.

Western Cape, South Africa

Getting Fallen Angels back on the road to save animals following horror crash

While taking three dogs to a vet, Fallen Angels co-founder Shireen Williams was involved in a dreadful accident in their only animal rescue vehicle – one that your donations helped us buy for them. Thankfully, all three dogs and Shireen are fine, but the driver responsible for the accident was uninsured and unlicensed, which means that any insurance claim will be complex and drawn-out, and could take many months - or longer - to resolve. Fallen Angels could not be without an animal rescue vehicle for that long - their absence was a serious blow to animals in painfully poor areas of the Western Cape, who rely on the FA vehicle to bring them food and care.

We reached out to you with a desperate plea to get our partner back on the road, and your response was overwhelming. Thanks to your unwavering support, we have raised enough funds to replace the Fallen Angels vehicle and get the team back to doing what they do best - saving animal lives.

Cape Town, South Africa - Vet bills, be gone! Thanks to your support, we were able to contribute $2,400 (around  £2,000) towards vet costs for Howlelujah Foundation in South Africa - a hard-working and chronically overstretched shelter caring for street dogs and cats. This covered the sterilization and vaccination of 80 cats and dogs, as well as treatment for their medical needs. Read more…

You will not believe how many animals are being abused today. With your support, we can save precious lives that will otherwise be lost! Our work never stops, and the need for help is always urgent. We receive no assistance from any government. What we do, we do because animals need us. And with your help, in this time of the corona crisis, we aim to extend our crusade to help animals to more countries where animals desperately need emergency relief.
