Education workers have been suffering heavy blows in recent years, as a result of
attacks on public education as a whole and on the future of our youth. Attacksthat only favor the richest. In addition, in recent months, schools have becometargets of violence, driven by hate speech (fueled by far-right ideology andpopularized through Bolsonarism). As a consequence, there is an increase ininvestments in police surveillance, while teachers and other education workersremain in an increasingly precarious situation, with the minimum wage not beingrespected and without the necessary structural investment to properly carry outtheir work.It is necessary to fight this whole scenario with strong organization and a lotof struggle! Only a national strike built from the grassroots, in eachschool/university/institute, with no tail tied up with governments, can makeEducation workers have their voices heard!FOR THE REVOCATION OF THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL!The reform of Secondary Education, whose lines had already been promoted for someyears, was approved in the government of Michel Temer, strongly supported byorganizations linked to big business. At the time, there was resistance fromstudents and Education workers, but, with police repression, politicians managedto approve the measure, which, this year, came into force throughout the countryand completely disorganized the school environment.Important disciplines such as Physics, Biology, Chemistry, History, Geography,Sociology, Arts and Philosophy have lost ground to the so-called "trainingitineraries" - which oblige students to choose specific areas of knowledge veryearly on - and "elective disciplines" - which include a series of of nonsense, like "how to become a millionaire" and "gourmet brigadeiro" -, deceiving andpushing students to the path of precarious jobs. Added to this, the enormousdisrespect towards teachers from the public school system, who are obliged toteach classes on topics they do not master. The Ministry of Education has temporarily suspended the implementation of the NewSecondary School for 90 days and is going to open a public consultation, but astrong mobilization of Education workers, together with students, is needed forthe measure to be in fact revoked, and not just modified, as Lula has alreadydeclared. Education union entities must not fall into this trap and organize thefight for the revocation, from each teaching unit!FOR THE PAYMENT OF THE WAGE FLOOR!The national wage floor for Education was readjusted to R$4,420 for a 40-hourday, across the country, and all governments are obliged to comply. It shouldalso be noted that the base salary should be applied from an 20-hour day, sincethe minimum wage for a career is the minimum that a professional should receiveand many municipal and state networks have an 20-hour work day. Thus, tying thefloor to a 40-hour day entails a lowering of the career wage. Despite this andthe mandatory compliance, many rulers simply did not give the increase. Inseveral cities, educators are mobilizing to enforce the measure, but it isnecessary that the fight be unified and gain strength, with all possible supportfrom the education workers' unions!FIGHT HATE AND THE MILITARY RISE OF SCHOOLS!Attacks on Education are also targeting teachers and students in the classroom.Recent attacks involving students or alumni are encouraged by far-right groups, including neo-Nazis, who have targeted anyone who helps promote critical thinkingand thinking.Together with the episodes, a climate of fear is created that affects everyeducation professional, every parent/guardian, every student and student, inaddition to the spread of fake news about possible new attacks. This wholeclimate only contributes to more fear and false solutions coming from governmentofficials, such as an increase in the presence of guards and police in schoolsand greater surveillance, with the installation of cameras and a "panic button".Electoral measures that do not result in improvements for Education and, still, strengthen investments in the security forces, which massacre the periphery on adaily basis. It is necessary to defend a true priority for Education. The construction of newsocial relationships must come from strengthening the school community, with therole of Education workers, father/mother/guardian and students, who together mustdecide the direction of the school!AGAINST ANY CONCILIATION WITH GOVERNMENTS!Education workers should not sustain illusions with the magical solutionspresented by shift governments or measures discussed in closed rooms. The Lulagovernment, for example, has a large participation of people who have attackedpublic education for decades and who defend the New High School, such asvice-president Geraldo Alckmin, in addition to liberal entities that guide thegovernment at all times. The entire school community must actively participate inmobilizations, so that Education is actually built from the ground up.The big trade unions called for a strike for this April 26th, but it's not enoughto announce it, it's necessary to mobilize from each teaching unit! Only buildingfrom the base will make the movement gain strength and stand up to all theseattacks against Education. For this reason, it is important for workers to putpressure on the union leaders of their unions so that a unified and combativenational strike can actually be built, in defense of quality public education!PRINT VERSIONhttps://anarquismosp.wordpress.com/2023/04/25/26-de-abril-por-uma-greve-nacional-contra-os-ataques-a-educacao/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
