The proletariat, the factory, work in general are rarely the subject of good
literature. If the proletarian writers bring their experience, they generallywrite in an academic style imitated from the classics, not very creative. Theothers quickly sink into misery, poeticization or heroization that lead toportraits that ring false. Living in or coming from the working world cannot beinvented. ---- En salle is a perfectly accomplished first novel. The storyinterweaves the memories of a working childhood and the present of a job atMac'do. A precise sense of the observation of a worker's daughter, the words ofthe father, the life of an ordinary family. With simple, direct sentences and aperfectly mastered rhythm that punctuates the repeated gestures of the child whohas become an employee at Mac'do, the relationships with colleagues and bosseswhere only incidents with customers and machine breakdowns come to shake up dailylife.Claire Baglin thus joins Robert Linhart and François Bon, already published byEditions de Minuit. These two authors and this author share the same talent fordescribing working conditions and the factory. It is likely that Baglin will notstay at the factory longer than Linhart and Bon... but his story draws on theflesh of experience. In the center, this Mac'do, both the dream of workers'children and also a factory. The worker triptych of the editions of Minuit reveals, incidentally, thepolitical collapse of the working class over the last forty years. Linhart inL'Établi, published in 1978, delivered a one-year experience at Citroën,detailing the union and political postures at stake. who failed. But no referenceto the slightest collective resistance, neither in childhood memories nor in hispresent fast food at Baglin. That's how things go...And yet the revolt rumbles muted in this very beautiful novel.
