WORLD WORLDWIDE FRANCE News Journal Update - (en) France, UCL AL #337 - Antipatriarchy, Day of struggle: A historic March 8 (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

The wave that flooded the streets of the country on March 8, 2023 is

unprecedented and marks a historic step in building a day worthy of what we arefighting for. ---- This mobilization is part of a particular context, in themidst of a social movement against the pension reform and the impact of thereform on women was at the center of the arguments. A feminist reading that wasmarginal a few years ago has become mainstream today. We know that we owe thisprogress to feminists in their unions and to the specific feminist movementwhich, by developing its organization, makes its demands unavoidable. The context of social mobilization could have served to massify March 8. However,we find that in cities where March 8 was only thought of as a date against thepension reform or only as a March 8 with no link to the current social movement, mobilizations were weaker. It is in cities where unitary frameworks bringingtogether unions, feminist and political organizations have enabled real linksbetween the labor and feminist movement that the mobilizations have exceeded allexpectations. In Toulouse, for example, 25,000 people demonstrated this yearcompared to around 4,500 last year. The demands focused on pensions, wages, reproductive rights and the fight against patriarchal violence. In some cities, two demonstrations were organized on the same date, one called byunions and the other by feminist organizations. This was the case in Nantes wherethe trade union demonstration brought together 1,500 people and that calling onthe collectives 2,500. These configurations tend to divide our forces, do notcreate mass in the street and above all, do not not on strike. The evening demonstrations are not enough to explain the still too low strikerates this year. While the Covid period has shown that feminized sectors areessential, that women have understood that when they stop, everything stops, westill have a lot of work ahead of us to develop the March 8 strike. It is through the alliance between feminist trade unionists and activistsorganized in the feminist movement that we will win. Throughout the year, we mustcontinue to develop these bonds so that our struggles grow stronger!Lila (UCL Saint-Denis)https://www.unioncommunistelibertaire.org/?Journee-de-lutte-Un-8-mars-historique_________________________________________A - I N F O S  N E W S  S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
