In Nairobi, Kenya, a heart-wrenching crisis is unfolding. Tens of thousands of street cats and dogs roam the city, unfed, uncared for and abused. With shelters bursting at the seams and no government help, their numbers grow relentlessly. It is a tragedy of immense proportions, and these helpless animals pay the ultimate price.

Our partner, the Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (KSPCA), is confronted with this situation every day.

It pains us to tell you that they have encountered dogs who had been doused with gasoline and set alight, stoned, and even hacked with machetes.

As animal lovers, it is unimaginable to us that there are people who treat innocent animals with such sickening cruelty. We are determined to show these poor creatures that not all humans are devoid of kindness. Please, will you help us?

One of the most critical needs in Nairobi is animal sterilization. The KSPCA runs spay and neuter campaigns in poor areas but receives absolutely no government support, and funds are extremely low. This tireless team desperately needs our help to continue their vital work.

We have promised to help in a community bordering Kibera - the largest and poorest slum in Africa. If we can raise $5,000 (£4,360), we can kickstart this critical project to spare the helpless animals of Nairobi from lives of unspeakable anguish and abuse. Your donation will cover spay and neuter programs and provide essential medical supplies needed to vaccinate the animals against rabies and treat their injuries.

This will not be without its challenges, especially given the recent political unrest in the area, as the local community protests the high cost of living in Kenya. Despite the risk of violence, road closures and blazing fires, the KSPCA has vowed to be there for animals in need.

As the only charitable animal welfare organization that works with domestic animals in Kenya, our partner responds to over 6,000 animal cruelty reports a year and runs a shelter which is currently packed with 150 dogs and 250 cats.
