George Floyd was murdered by police officers in the US city of Minneapolis three
years ago. The images that went around the world clearly showed the deadlyreality of racism and state violence. They ignited a wave of determined protestsagainst this racist system that many would not have believed possible. ---- Incities across the United States, hundreds of thousands resisted the racistviolence of the state and its police for weeks. There were also massmobilizations in many countries beyond the USA. The communities directly affectedand their allies spoke out for a life free of fear and violence. ---- The US andthe world experienced a brief summer of hope, resistance and rebellion againstthese conditions in 2020 - amid the pandemic. In the US, this breathed new lifeinto the "Black Lives Matter" movement, but in most other countries - includinghere in our country - the movement quickly lost momentum again.The reasons for this are numerous, but they must not make us give up. Becauseevery year people continue to die at the hands of uniformed murderers! The rootof racism is in this system! To end violence, the state, capitalism andcolonialism must fall!It still needs consistent resistance against racism and the police who enforceit! It takes long-term self-organization of those affected and their alliesagainst this system! A strong movement is needed that makes anti-racistself-defense practical! It needs organized, resistant neighborhoods! Let's worktogether to build it all!
