There is more and more awareness of the current reality of current devastation.
On 28 May, a Sunday afternoon, the presentation of the book "Territori in lotta.Global capitalism and environmental justice in the age of climate crisis". Theinitiative was organized with the Catania Waste Observatory and saw theconversation conducted by Ludovica Intelisano, activist, and Paola Imperatore, author of the book. We began by recalling that the Waste Observatory was born inopposition to the creation of disposal plants in the area. The intent is to builda struggling and free community, for this to be possible it is necessary to startfrom solid analytical tools. We cannot remain indifferent to an increasinglyaccelerated militarization of society. A military hub is to be installed near theMadonie, a condition that will be harmful for the whole territory.Paola Imperatore's work starts from anger towards injustice and environmentalviolence. She is a research fellow at the University of Turin and originally fromLa Spezia, when she arrives in Pisa she becomes aware of the abuses that, in thename of profit, are perpetrated on the territories. So Paola seeks direct contactwith the movements for environmental justice. In 2013 you went to Val di Susa, experiencing different forms of social relations aimed at managing the territory.Care work does not fall only on women, everyone takes charge of it, thus leadingto new forms of interaction between people. A greater awareness emerges in autumn2014, with the flood in Carrara. Since the mayor believed himself exempt fromresponsibility, the inhabitants occupied the municipality for two months.Furthermore, the author participated in a work camp in Puglia; she here she knowsthe NO TAP movements, in particular the behavior and the relationship betweenwomen. Reference to a policeman who acquires awareness of the absurdities of the"trade", so she leaves her uniform and becomes a NO TAV activist. In Territori in lotta Paola Imperatore identifies six different conflicts, whosevariables are the place, the social background, the type of struggle. These arethe result of political, economic and social dynamics. The territory becomes aspace for political analysis with respect to the neoliberal logics that tend todevastate it. The struggles, in their heterogeneity, are transversal: they crossall of Italy and converge in the defense of the territories. The movements havecommon characteristics, such as the practice of participatory democracy throughself-management meetings, and going beyond the defense of one's own backyard. Itis considered essential to defend the place where you live and at the same timethere is support for other territorial struggles. Another aspect shared by thesemovements is the radical nature of the conflict, in its creativity and diversity. For example, compared to the NO TAV movement, children from an early age areintroduced into the struggle and this therefore becomes normality. Radicality isa very uncomfortable aspect for political-economic power: as a response, itbrings greater repression but in struggles one is always tenacious in makingclaims. The design of devastating projects is another factor hindering landmovements. This is the case of a decree that provided for even fewer checks, following the collapse of the Genoa bridge. Furthermore, the funds for the PNRRstill go to private individuals. All sneaky tools to discourage territorial struggle.A relevant consideration should be made towards the Committees of mothers. Aparent who participates in territorial struggles breaks with patriarchal legaciesand traditional family balances, tending towards freedom. A mother can very wellalso be an activist and therefore we speak of women as a subjectivity. Theidentity of the struggles is also forged by this; the territorial care of themothers recalls the connection with Mother Nature. The descent into the field ofthe mothers changes the structure of the movement; they come in times of greatestconflict. With them you can get to know the wild herbs present in the area; withthe No Muos mothers the blocks were formed. Paola Imperatore refers to PermanentPresidia as a form of direct, authentic and constant participation in themanagement and care of the territory. Consideration towards the struggle inAbruzzo, really consistent but often ignored. Here there is an 800 km gaspipeline that reaches Bologna. Now the author is engaged in the fight against theinstallation of a military base in Pisa. Nowadays, in fact, there is an attemptto normalize the increasingly intrusive presence of the military in society, passed on by the megaphones of power as a pedagogical aspect. Paola Imperatorelooks at the distorted and toxic narrative regarding territorial movements. Themainstream mass media often speak of "infiltrators", troglodytes against"progress", but in reality they are people who are extremely aware of what ishappening. The practice becomes the end rather than the means, this reinforcesthe identity of the territorial struggles. The presentation of Territories in Struggle shed light on environmental justice.Provisions such as the ecological transition, a term of Orwellian memory, notonly exploit the environmental emergency, they carry on profit through the"green". The State and capitalism impose harmfulness, militarization, destruction, devastation of the beauty of the territories. Kurdistan can be agood point of reference in organizing the struggles, from below, in a transversaland self-managed way. Territories in struggle tells the story of the resistanceof the inhabitants whose territories are threatened by capitalist and patronagespeculation.Angela Strangehttps://www.sicilialibertaria.it/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
