I could face life in prison, just because I am gay.

Last week, the President of Uganda signed into law one of the world's harshest anti-LGBT+ laws. And today, it is officially in effect.

That means, legally in my country, anyone convicted of participating in same-sex acts between adults will face life in prison. And anyone "promoting homosexuality" will face 20 years in prison. Anyone charged with "aggravated homosexuality" will face the death penalty.

But the All Out movement can help. We've been partnering with All Out for many years and now we need your support more than ever.

Uganda's new anti-LGBT+ law extends beyond our community and punishes our allies, our family, our friends. It has instilled a sense of fear and paranoia in our communities. That we are dangerous just to be around.

Under this new law, anyone who fails to "report acts of homosexuality" could face 5 years in prison. Anyone who "allows" their home to be used for "acts of homosexuality" could face up to 7 years.

As a result, we have seen a huge increase in mob violence in the months leading up to the passage of this bill. I am terrified of what is going to come now that the law has gone into effect.

Life has not been easy for me here as an openly gay man and a well-known activist. I've received death threats. My safety has been compromised more times than I can count. But I refuse to give up.

Because I know that there are so many other LGBT+ people in this country who deserve a fighting chance. A chance to live a life of dignity and freedom.

Activists like me and others have decided to stay and challenge this law. The global solidarity we have received and continue to receive is the reason we are stronger than ever, we are confident we will win this too.
