arrest, beat up and mutilate opponents of the social regression bill or the water
privatization plan in Sainte-Soline. At the same time the general registration of
the population is implemented. ---- Since the end of January in France, a major
movement to challenge the pension counter-reform has developed, dragging millions
of people into the streets. Massive demonstrations took place across the country.
The bill was presented to the trade union organizations without them being able
to propose alternatives to the measures most unfavorable to the workers, this is
what is called "social dialogue". Finally, deaf to the protests of the workers,
the first and foremost concerned, the government decided to initiate the famous
article 49.3, in defiance of the famous "democratic debate" so much vaunted by
this same power.

This forced transition was experienced as violence by those who believe that it
is still possible to reform the system from within, and the demonstrations, which
have been rather peaceful so far, to the great displeasure of the government,
which from the first demonstrations warned against possible "excesses", were
punctuated by altercations, sometimes severe, with brutal police forces, using
all their arsenal, a good part of which is considered to be ammunition or weapons
of war. The acme of this repression was reached on Saturday March 25 in
Sainte-Soline, where to preserve the interests of an ultra-minority, the State
deployed an insane arsenal. Result: hundreds of injured and help prevented from
going to the scene to take care of the injured whose vital prognosis was engaged.

During this time, arbitrary arrests multiplied in the demonstrations. The power
seeking to intimidate the demonstrators: young people and trade unionists being
particularly targeted[1]. The repression is such that the Defender of Rights or
even international organizations have been moved by the maintenance of order as
it is practiced in France.

The police, armed arm of capital
On May 19, the government suffered a new snub: it had to erase personal data from
a file listing those in custody during the mobilization against the pension
reform[2]. The very existence of such a file is proof, if more were needed, of
the new escalation of power to bring to heel those who do not submit to its
liberal-authoritarian policy.

More than ever we must reaffirm our opposition to this system which, to satisfy
the interests of a minority, does not hesitate to injure, mutilate or imprison. A
power that flirts with the extreme right to break social movements, to divide
workers who, beyond their beliefs, their origins, have the same class interests.
It is through struggle and solidarity that we will build substantial alternatives
to this capitalist system and to the oppression suffered by minorities, whatever
they may be.
