Following the assassination of the young Nahel by 2 police officers, as in 2005
following the death of Zied and Bouna, the youth of the popular neighborhoodsrevolted for a whole week. ---- The extent of the revolt is a proportionalresponse to this new killing that follows so many others over the past 20 years. Two weeks before Nahel's death, a 19-year-old young man was shot dead by policein Angoulême for refusing to comply. His name was Alhoussein. Since Nahel'sdeath, a 27-year-old man died in Marseille on the night of July 1 to 2 as aresult of a probable LBD shot. ---- The response of the state is always the same:security, stigmatizing, racist and colonial. ---- Safe because it allows itselfin the name of "maintenance of order" to send the army into the streets: theGIGN, the armored vehicles of the gendarmerie, the BRI, the RAID. The police arehaving a great time, without any form of restraint in working-class neighborhoods.Videos of violent arrests, shootings at the crowd or even beatings are alreadycirculating on the networks. The curfew is introduced in some cities, thenetworks are monitored, censored, public transport stops - leaving workers in theneighborhoods to return home by their own means.Stigmatizing and racist because in the face of this there is no dialogue, but astigmatization of the parents, of the "rioters" who are depicted as anuncontrollable crowd, without reason, bestial and savage: a classic of colonialrhetoric. We find this in the communiqué of the police unions Alliance Police andUNSA Police, fortunately denounced by their confederations, which call for a realracial civil war. This press release speaks of "harmful", of "war", of "wildhordes", the dehumanization is total. The murder of Nahel is set aside or largely influenced by racist logic and acondemnation of the revolts: the IGPN prides itself on not having heard the samesentences on the video yet viewed by millions of people, Nahel's mother would notadopt, according to the media, the posture of a bereaved mother.Nahel would be a repeat offender, we hear everywhere that he would not be an"angel". Even more shocking - if that is possible - the policeman's familysupport kitty exceeds one million euros. Get the message: kill a 17-year-old boy,you will become a millionaire.Repression is also judicial. For the past few days the courts have been packed. The immediate appearances of young people who do not know their rights follow oneanother, their families do not close their eyes all night. Politicians insistthat the sentences be heavy according to the Moretti circular, the courts open onSundays to judge with a vengeance. Finally, in the most total complacency of the State, small fascist groups, as inAngers, Chambéry or Lyon, come out to do justice themselves, armed with iron bars. After the so-called "riot" phase, anger must not die out and remain isolated.Because since 2005 what has changed? The inhabitants know and are exasperated byracism, violence, discrimination and humiliation by the police, of course, butalso the humiliations before the courts, the humiliations of daily life: insocial services, at school , at work, exacerbated media and politicalstigmatization of immigration, of Muslims... The terms used, such as"decivilization", at the highest level of the state, encourage institutionalracism. Added to this is the Separatism law and the license to kill given to thepolice in 2017. On the social level, inflation is strangling the inhabitants, andsince 2017 the macronie has offered the youth of the neighborhoods only theuberization as a solution: racist discrimination optimizing and subjecting toprecariousness. Social misery and all its human consequences condemn them:precariousness, unemployment, low wages, the degradation and disappearance ofpublic services and, in general, any form of collective solidarity. These revoltsin the neighborhoods must raise awareness of the responsibility of the state andpolitics in the reproduction of a racist society. If the shooting of the policeofficer on Nahel is in the first place a racist individual act, let us not forgetthat it is largely allowed by the functioning of the institutions. We call for an open-ended campaign to demand justice for working-classneighborhoods and invite people to join or organize planned protests. We demand justice and truth for all families who have lost a loved one to thepolice, and immediately, the removal of the 2017 article, the global securitylaw, the disarmament of the police. We demand the qualification of these crimesas racist crimes by denouncing the whole chain of those responsible. We denounce the police for what it is: a racist, colonial institution, whichslips more and more into a fascistic drift and only ensures a function of classcontrol. In view of the events of the past weeks and months, a first measure ofdissolution of the BRAV-M, like that of the BAC, which should have intervenedyears ago, is essential. We demand the abolition of the Separatism law, the regularization of undocumentedimmigrants, the end of systemic discrimination and racial hate speech. We demand the release of those arrested and amnesty for those convicted sincelast week in the context of this revoltWe demand the massive redeployment of all public services (housing, health, school, transport,) and the corresponding (non-precarious) hiring of theinhabitants of these neighborhoods, financed by the sharing of wealth. We demand popular control of the prices of basic necessities. The bourgeoisie hasgotten quite rich on the backs of working-class neighborhoods.Libertarian Communist Union, July 5, 2023.https://www.unioncommunistelibertaire.org/?Justice-pour-les-quartiers-populaires_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
