organized by the Anarchist Political Organization on the premises of the School
of History and Philosophy of Science (IFE) on July 7, 8, 9. The announcement of
the dates of the 5th Freedom Festival took place as early as February 8 and was
posted on all cinema media, while later, on February 21, the Anti-Racist festival
was announced for June 30 and July 1.2. But then, apparently because there were
reports in the press about a possible date for the second election on July 2
(which did not happen), it was announced on March 15 that the Anti-Racist
festival would be moved to exactly the same dates (i.e. July 7, 8, 9) and place ,
with those of the Freedom Festival!
The organizing committee of the Anti-Racist festival was informed of the
inappropriateness of this decision, because the Freedom festival was already
scheduled to take place on those exact dates and in the same place. It was
pointed out that this is not the first time that this has been done, because the
same thing was done last year as well, putting prohibitive obstacles in the
realization of the Freedom festival, that this constitutes a culture of
imposition and they cannot do what they want on others.
However, although we are right in every respect and we would expect them to
respect it, by choosing other dates, we were informed that they continued the
invitations to participate in the Anti-Racist for the same dates and in the same
place as the Eleftheriako and then they informed us that their programming is not
changing.
This conscious choice of the organizing committee of the Anti-Racist festival, to
knowingly transfer the dates of its implementation to the 5th Freedom Festival,
in addition to the paradox of the simultaneous holding of 2 festivals in
neighboring areas, creates very serious practical issues and questions about
possible disturbances until and preventing the smooth running of the planned
events of the Freedom Festival.
Thus, the organizing committee of the Anti-Racist Festival should do in the
practical field everything necessary and necessary for the unhindered conduct of
the events of the Freedom Festival, which will be held both in the indoor and in
the courtyard areas of the IFE school, as it itself is the one that has the full
and exclusive responsibility for choosing the timing of the 2 festivals in
neighboring areas. In the opposite case, as is the proximity of music stages and
events to the premises of the IFE, it will mean the political choice to impose
the organizing committee of the Anti-Racist on the Freedom festival.
Finally, from our side and once again, we would like to invite everyone to the
events of the 5th Freedom Festival of social, class and international solidarity
and also make it known and clear in time that any disturbance or obstruction of
political and cultural events, that we have planned with a multitude of guests
and participants, will be solely the responsibility and choice of the organizing
committee of the Anti-Racist festival, which we hope will not happen.
