And while this version was in any case state murder, we wereshocked to learn that these people were not simply left to die by the Greek navy,but were murdered outright. From the testimonies of the survivors, it is provedthat the coast guard towed the boat and while the people on board had not drunkwater or eaten for 4 days, while they were begging for help, it tried to pullthem out and throw them into Italian waters, that is, as he does daily bythrowing people into rickety rafts or boats without engines, leaving them to die.In their attempt they sank the boat and then left all these people to die. What theEbro fences achieve is not reducing migration, but actually directing thedesperate to far more dangerous crossings with deadly consequences.But even if they manage to arrive, what awaits them are closed detention centers,torture, beatings, theft by "law enforcement", vindictive destruction of theirdocuments, lack of access to medical care, reduced access to the self-evidenthuman right to asylum through a series of laws that restricted it again and againmaking a mockery in practice of any notion of "human right" and "internationalconventions" (with the last asylum law peaking in wretchedness), recognition forrefugees from Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Bangladesh and Somalia, Turkey asa safe country (!), racist and xenophobic attitudes, street attacks, zero accessto the labor market, zero access to meaningful integration programs.And those"lucky" who manage to find work are faced with miserable working conditions,uninsured, and even bullets from bosses when they ask for their daily wages.The suffering, the hunted because of the wars and persecutions of every power andevery state, the refugees and immigrants, are at the heart of our solidarity.They are our class brothers, the most undervalued, underpaid and insecure part ofour class, the bane of every small and big boss. It is our duty to preserve theirdignity and free movement, erasing the border lines that the powers that be havedrawn for their subjects, but not for the commodities of the bosses, anddemanding the immediate legalization of all immigrants.We demand that the pushbacks stop now. We demand that the borders be openedimmediately and that the immigrants be released. We demand the provision ofpublic care and housing for those who wish to remain in Greece and the grantingof the necessary documents for those who wish to move to other Europeancountries.
