On the night of 5/7/23, around 3-4am, MAT, EKAM and other police forces raided
the self organised kurdish refugee camp of Lavrio. The state mobilised itsrepressive forces, conducting a military-like operation with over 250 officersgoing in weapons raised to the self organised home of Kurdish and Turkishpolitical exiles and their loved ones. They forcebly took families and children,brutalising and handcuffing all those who resisted, and transferred to thepreviously closed Oinofyta. ---- Having won the election,the Mitsotakisgovernment is continuing, at an increased level, the dirty and repressive programit prepared during it's first term in office.The real motivation of the Greek state behind the raid and eviction, is anadherence to the approach of NATO and the EU, in policies against refugees andimmigrants, and to extinguish all soial movements. The eviction comes as the giftof the Mitsotakis government to the Erdogan regime, 6 days before the next NATOmeeting. For years Turkey has put pressure on the Greek State to close Lavriocamp, using the justification of combatting terrorism-the same discourse which isused to the use of chemical weapons in the mountains of Kurdistan, politicalpersecution in Turkey, and military operations in northeast Syria. Theinternational community remains silent about the crimes of the Turkish State, andbecomes complicit in the violence.Today, the Greek state evicted people from a space of solidarity, resistance, andcommunal life. People already forced to leave their homeland due to politicalpersecution, state violence; incarceration, torture, police brutality, death. Indoing so, the Mitsotakis government collaborated with Erdogan's regime in itsgenocidal war against the Kurds.
