Urgent appeal to the Council of Europe, EU and UN for an ad hoc mission to Imrali
---- In an interview on July 8, Sabri Ok, member of the executive council of theUnion of Democratic Communities of Kurdistan (KCK), he told Kurdish TV channelSterk TV that threatening letters were recently sent to Abdullah Öcalananonymously through the Imrali prison administration. In addition to the rule oflawlessness in Imrali, these serious threats constitute a new level ofpsychological terror towards Öcalan. This issue has therefore caused greatconcern among us and the millions of Kurds around the world who support AbdullahÖcalan.As Mr. Sabri Ok stated, the recent threats have been transmitted via anonymousletters controlled and transmitted by both the Turkish state and the ImraliPrison Administration. According to Mr. Ok, the letters included messages suchas: "We will administer a poison that will lead to your death. Even the insectsthat feed on your corpse will be poisoned and will perish." This happened at atime when Mr Öcalan had no means of communication with the outside world forabout 28 months.Kurdish people's leader and founder of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party)Abdullah Öcalan was held as a political prisoner for over 24 years in the Turkishprison on Imrali Island, including many years of solitary confinement under theAKP regime. The most recent threats must be taken very seriously as Mr Öcalan wasalready poisoned in March 2007. This was later proven by several internationallaboratories, including the ChemTox laboratory in Strasbourg, based on a hairsample from Mr Öcalan. The test result showed that the level of poisonouschromium and strontium in Mr. Öcalan's hair was much higher than normal.Especially in the last 28 months, Mr. Öcalan's lawyers and family have not beenable to visit him. Phone calls were also not allowed. The last sign of Mr. Öcalanwas a short phone call with his brother on 25 March 2021. Although the lawyershave continuously approached the relevant authorities in Turkey and the EuropeanCommittee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) to be able to see their client,they have not received any answer.This and the aforementioned threats to his life have raised great concern for Mr.Öcalan's life among us and the entire Kurdish people. The CPT has so farunfortunately refused to act and has not shared any information on the situationin Imrali prison, although according to the criteria of the Council of Europe, itis the only organization which can visit this prison at any time.In light of the seriousness of the recent threats to Öcalan's life, we ask theCommittee of Ministers and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe,the EU and the United Nations to organize an ad hoc urgent mission to visitAbdullah Öcalan.
