Butfifteen days later another prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment, the RussianVictoer Pereshchako, also on hunger strike for 60 days in protest against thefailure to extradite to Russia, died. And that makesthe difference.The struggle of the two prisoners - and it seems that many hunger strikes arebeing held in Brucoli - was shrouded in silence, and their death buried inoblivion until the leak of news which, in any case, does not seem to have causedexcessive scandal; few reflections and the two deaths relegated to news eventsnot worthy of further study. Yet in Brucoli the inmates live in conditions thathave been repeatedly declared unacceptable, and it seems that half of thefacility is closed due to inadequacy. This has been written about in a vaguemanner, and mention has also been made of the difficult conditions of the prisonpolice, "forced" to operate in a degraded environment.Another example of how prison represents a "black hole" where anything canhappen, where the rights of prisoners are just waste paper; for a few months,thanks to the very long battle of Alfredo Cospito, prison, the 41 bis regime,life imprisonment and impeded life imprisonment, there was talk as never beforein Italy.
