At least 16 people were murdered by the SP PM in a mega police operation

Themassacre brought a climate of terror to the region's communities, wherethe most precarious working class lives. ---- The PM of SP, commanded byformer police officer Guilherme Derrite and by governor Tarcísio deFreitas, alleges that the deaths occurred in exchanges of gunfire withthe police. But residents of the communities denounce summary executionsof unarmed people, some who already had passage through the police orthe prison system. According to reports, police threatened to kill up to60 people. In publications available on social networks, PMs announcedthat there would be deaths, and celebrated the increase in the number ofvictims during the operation.The case is the biggest massacre in Baixada Santista since the Crimes ofMay 2006, when, under the pretext of fighting organized crime, policeofficers killed several young black people and residents of theperiphery. From that tragic episode, the Mães de Maio movement was born,which seeks to organize the families of victims of the State in thesearch for truth and justice.The São Paulo Military Police massacre was not the only one seen inrecent days. In Bahia, led by the PT since 2007, the PM killed at least25 people in the last week, also in alleged operations to combatorganized crime, in the cities of Salvador, Camaçari and Itatim. In Riode Janeiro, in just one day, the PM killed 10 people in Complexo daPenha, with the excuse of fighting a criminal faction.These 51 deaths in less than a week are yet another episode of thefailure of the War on Drugs, which is actually a war on the workingclass that lives in the peripheries, the vast majority of which areblack and precarious, which, from the point of view of the State, needsto be controlled. In addition to the severity of the executionsthemselves, which increase violence in the communities, the deathsimpact the day-to-day life of these territories, with the imposition ofa climate of fear, the suspension of classes and work, in addition tothe fact that repression does not reach the drug financing andproduction centers. These are media operations, which serve only aselectoral demagoguery, to stimulate hatred and violence against theperipheries.Bolsonaro's defeat at the polls did not shake the violent and raciststructure of the Brazilian State, with the PM being the main tool ofcontrol of the working class most exploited by the holders of capitaland power. It is necessary to radicalize the demands for the expansionof social rights and denounce the daily violence of the police. It isessential to support movements to denounce police brutality, in thefight to end the "War on Drugs" and for the extinction of the MilitaryPolice! With each passing year, we witness episodes of massacres carriedout by the State's repressive forces, which makes it clear that theseare not isolated episodes, but rather part of a historical andstructural process. Therefore, it is necessary, in addition to populardemonstrations of denunciation, to build popular self-defense bodies ofthe oppressed classes that are called upon to face these attacks.
