Dear friends,
My name is Jabari* and I am a gay man in Egypt.
Up until recently, I wasn't out to my family and friends. That would have been way too dangerous – for myself and for them. But even hiding this part of myself did not protect me – and one day the Egyptian police came for me.
Thankfully, I was not alone. Bedayaa, an LGBT+ organization, stood by me through this nightmare and provided legal and psychological support.
Now they need your help to continue this lifesaving work.
Luc, donate just $5 now to fund urgent legal support for LGBT+ people in Egypt.
My horror story began when I met a man from Grindr. It turned out he was targeting LGBT+ people in order to blackmail them for money. He and his friends threatened to turn me in to the police. Even after I paid what they asked for, they still turned me in and outed me to the public.
The police detained me and held me for several days. And it got worse from there. While I was waiting for trial, I was receiving constant threats. I had to leave my home and lost my job.
Without Bedayaa, I would have had nowhere to go. They had lawyers and psychologists that stood by my side the entire time.
But now Bedayaa needs your support to continue helping LGBT+ people like me.
Donate $5 by MIDNIGHT TONIGHT to support Bedayaa in their fight for LGBT+ rights in Egypt.
Thank you for going All Out, Jabari* (he/him) *I am using a pseudonym for safety reasons.
