This text adopted during the Federal Coordination of March 2023 aims to
relaunch the dynamic and coordinate the involvement of UCL in the BDSFrance campaign (Boycott Divestment Sanctions). ---- During the nationalmeeting of January 14-15, 2023, the Boycott Divestment Sanctions (BDS)France campaign, directed against apartheid and colonialism inPalestine, decided to increase the visibility of its action and aspecific campaign against the Carrefour brand, which supports illegalIsraeli settlements in occupied Palestine. The signatory organizationsof the BDS call, including UCL, are called upon to take part.UCL supports the struggle of the Palestinian people [1]for their freedomin the face of the colonial war waged against them by the State ofIsrael. This is entering a new period with the coming to power in TelAviv of a right and extreme right coalition, the ensuing provocations,the desperate individual attacks against Israeli colonies, the militarybombardments in retaliation, the bankruptcy of the Palestinian Authorityand the appearance of young resistance groups (like the Nablusbattalion) independent of Hamas and Fatah...Despite the repression of the Sarkozy-Hollande years (with theAlliot-Marie circular of February 12, 2010 penalizing the boycott),despite tactical divisions [2], the BDS-France campaign continued:boycott of Puma, Axa, actions on the 2020 Tour de France (with the UCL)[3], against Israel's participation in Eurovision...Reminder on BDS: this international campaign was launched in 2004 by allof Palestinian civil society (i.e. living in Israel, in exile or in theOccupied Territories). On the model of the boycott campaign againstSouth Africa in the 1980s, it is a question of demanding, by peacefulmeans, the application of international law : the end of the occupation,of colonization, the destruction of the separation wall, the end of theblockade of Gaza, equal rights and the right to return for refugees (orto just compensation).In France, BDS started in June 2009, with campaigns against Agrexco [4],against Orange (victorious), against Veolia (which was building theJerusalem tramway and helping to destroy Arab neighborhoods etc.).Current campaign: Carrefour, through its franchise agreement with theIsraeli company Electra Consumer Products and its subsidiary YenotBitan, companies active in illegal settlements, finds itself, underinternational law, in a situation of complicity in war crimes,occupation, settler colonialism and apartheid. Targeted for export, itis now also for import. In Africa, in several Arab countries and inAsia, where Carrefour has a strong presence, campaigns are also beingset up.The UCL is a member of the BDS campaign, as well as many anti-racist ortrade union organizations (CNT, Solidaires, certain CGT sections) wherelibertarian communists are active. In order to participate, severalsimple actions:in general: relaying BDS slogans on our social networks and means ofcommunication;at the federal level: paste a small BDS logo on the last page of thenewspaper and, on the home page of the website, a visual referring to asection compiling information and articles on the campaign, invite ourpartners from the Anarkismo network to do the same;at the local level : local groups can carry out actions and "label" themBDS (as in 2020 for the Tour de France); they can also join local BDScommittees or create one with other signatory organizations.An annual meeting: an international week - the Israeli Apartheid Week -is organized each year in March (in 2023, from March 13 to 27). Inrecent years, it has mainly existed in universities, with screenings,debates... It ends with Land Day, every March 30, which commemoratespeasant resistance to expropriations, and in particular the Palestiniangeneral strike of March 30, 1976 (6 strikers murdered).An animation team: a team is being set up (...) with a view to beingmandated to:* set the UCL's BDS action to music, within the framework of our federalorientations on the Palestinian question;* organize internal training on the Palestinian question, whosepolitical understanding has been declining in France - including in thesocial movement - since the 2010s.UCL's anti-colonialist commitment and anti-racist vigilance must beimpeccable, in order to repel both attempts at anti-Semitic intrusionand instrumentalization and the slander ("anti-Semites","Islamo-leftists") which Zionists are accustomed to, but which theFrench state can also use to stigmatize the far left, the Muslimminority and working-class neighborhoods.Libertarian Communist Union, March 2023CLARIFICATIONS ON THE TERM ZIONISMThe term Zionism used here refers to its definition given in the motion"Against colonialism in Palestine, for a free and democratic Palestine"adopted in June 2020:"The Israeli ruling class, and most of the political class, are deeplyimbued with a nationalist and colonialist ideology, Zionism. Thisideology was born in a context of the development of anti-Semitism andnationalism in Europe.Unlike the assimilationist or revolutionary currents, the Zionistcurrents considered anti-Semitism as inevitable as long as the Jewsremained a minority everywhere and had the historical objective offorming a national Jewish majority in Palestine, which went through theexpulsion of the Palestinians throughout the colonial process, andthrough a policy of ethnic cleansing.In this continuity, the current Israeli ruling class aims to maintain astate on ethno-nationalist bases in which the national majority remainsJewish.
