BLOCK THE NEW AUCTION PLANS OF THE TRITSI PARK ---- A few months ago,
the Region of Attica and the Tritsi Park Management Agency presented
their new plans for the transformation of the Tritsi Park into a "model
environmental park" . Studying the main axes of this design it is easy
to understand that it is more like a design for a shopping center and an
extension of the commercial plunder of the park. Initially, the new
exploitation plan envisages the division of the park into "8 zones" and
the performance of different, and largely business, functions in each of
them. In particular, it is planned to create a shopping street along the
central canal which will be surrounded on the right and left by shops,
markets and restaurants, the creation of tree house hotels for rent, new
outdoor markets, new building facilities and further cementing of the
park even in the area of its forest area etc.

Of course, the plans for the commercial exploitation of the Tritsis park
did not start now. A large part of it is already privatized but the
predators of capital are not satisfied with this and plan to privatize
virtually the entire area. As mentioned above, these rascals intend to
loot the public park and turn it into yet another commercial space (an
outdoor department store). They are trying to promote this project of
theirs as a move to modernize the park for the benefit of the citizens.
We are clearly under no illusions and realize that their only purpose is
their profits.

Tritsi Park is the only green part of our area, a park that the whole
local and non-local community often visits and is an invaluable natural
resource within the urban fabric. Its management body has left it
abandoned to its fate without making any substantial move to improve it.
This park has a lot of natural resources that remain untapped and most
of it today is fenced off for exploitation by business interests and
blocked from free access. Many things could be done by us residents
within this ruined park such as cultivating the land and creating
cooperatives where the goods will be distributed to the local community
as well as utilizing the abandoned, dilapidated buildings that exist
within the park.

After the presentation of the new design for the configuration of the
park, it is clear that the Region of Attica, the Management Body, in
good cooperation with the municipalities of Agioi Anargyro - Kamaterou
and Ilio, who have always looked to exploit the park areas for their own
benefit, are attempting to put into effect the full commercial
exploitation of the park with their eyes fixed on the profits of capital
and not the real needs of the people. For them, the visitors of the park
are considered only as consumers - customers and the natural environment
nothing more than a beautiful decor next to the new shopping shops,
cafes and restaurants that they plan to open. It is not just a
coincidence that a conference was organized in the town hall of Ilio
with large broker investors from America who were interested and spoke
with the mayor of Ilio N. Zeneto about investments in the regeneration
of Tritsi park.

These bastards need to know that we will not allow this to happen and
they will find us before them. Their plans will fall on deaf ears. And
not only will we overturn their aspirations, but we will also go many
steps further: in the development of a counter-proposal for the
socialization of the park, its popular management and collective care
based on the needs and benefit of the local community.

To organize a sustained and vigorous struggle away from municipal
factions and the people who will try to hoodwink this struggle to
collect votes and not allow them to loot our park any more
