The feeling of impunity in the police is still deepening: while it has
recently killed and mutilated to maintain social and racist order, theinstitution protects its agents and calls for an exception for criminalsin its ranks. ---- While the murder of Nahel remains present ineveryone's mind, the violence of the police has again shown itself in asordid affair. This time, a young man, Hedi, found himself seriouslydisabled following a regular beating by 4 police officers on the nightof July 1, during the unleashing of police violence to quell therevolts. Hedi and his friend were trying to reach Marseille on their wayout of work, when they came across agents from the BAC. Hedi has themisfortune to be Arab in a country where the police - and not only them- are racist. He receives a flashball shot in the head and indicatesthat several of them would have put on him to hit him with their fistsand batons for long minutes. Hedi will have lost part of his skullduring the surgery that allowed him to stay alive. Broken jaw, badlydamaged left eye, more than 60 staples were used to consolidate hisskull and he will have to be operated on again in 3/4 months. Thedoctors reportedly told him that they felt like "operating on a deadperson".In addition to the extreme violence and the profound injustice containedin this beating of a person for the sole reason that he is identified asan Arab, what also outrages and alarms us is the unfailing support givento the aggressors by their police colleagues, as when the defendantswere applauded on their release from police custody. And this despiteoverwhelming evidence. Even more, it is the complacency of thehierarchy, from the prefect to the minister via the Director General ofthe National Police (DGPN), in the face of methods that are neverthelessmanifestly illegal, such as the use of fake sick leave. Far fromreframing his troops, Darmanin even granted them additional advantages:guarantee of the anonymity of the police, maintenance of bonuses duringthe suspension of an agent, and above all exemption from pre-trialdetention. The already well-established regime of impunity of the policeis dramatically reinforced. The NUPES (with the notable exception of thePCF) expressed their concern at the deterioration of the rule of law anddemocracy, as well as their wish to see "republican order in the police"restored. If this reaction testifies to a positive evolution of thequestion of police violence on the institutional left - and the bittermemory of the support given by several leaders and left-wing parties tothe factious demonstration of May 20, 2021 shows how far we started onthese subjects - the wording remains misleading. Because wishing torestore "order in the police" is to claim that this kind of violence isnot intrinsic to the police institution. And that is to forget thatpolice violence is an integral part of what they call "the republicanorder".On the contrary, we affirm that an institution is judged by what itproduces and not by what it claims to be. However, when for decades theso-called "errors" and "blunders" have multiplied, when far from givingrise to excuses, questioning and condemnation, they only produceunconditional solidarity towards those who commit them and thereinforcement of impunity, it must be inferred that the institution isworking precisely as it is intended. If the police take as a betrayalthe fact that justice can call them into question, it is because forthem these facts are part of the mission they claim to accomplish, inthe instructions of their hierarchy: to park the populations of theneighborhoods people, track down young people perceived as coming fromthese neighborhoods, maintain a racist and colonial order. Murders andbeatings are only the most extreme manifestations of this continuum ofviolence. The Libertarian Communist Union affirms its full support for Hedi andhis family and for all the other victims of the police, judicial andprison institutions. We demand the dissolution of factious policeunions, the end of police impunity, the dissolution of the BAC and theBRAV-M. These necessary emergency measures can only be the beginning ofan effective fight against the police and judicial system. Only theconstruction of a real popular balance of power, throughself-organization in working-class neighborhoods and beyond, will makeit possible to combat violence and state and police domination. No justice, no peace!Libertarian Communist Union, August 3, 2023https://www.unioncommunistelibertaire.org/?Crimes-racistes-crimes-d-Etat-la-police-protege-les-siens_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
