profit, the accumulation of capital, based on the economic exploitation
of human beings. ---- It is to neglect or underestimate that the
reproduction of the system requires, beyond this immediate condition,
many other conditions, among others that it mobilizes the different
social relations (young/old, woman/ man, class relations, etc.) to his
advantage. ---- By comparing a number of facts, political analyzes and
scientific opinions, the author puts things into perspective. After a
quick review of the history, current events and contradictions of a
system in permanent crisis, racial and feminist issues and the
ecological crisis (from its origins to the present day) are successively
addressed.

In chapter 16 entitled "The central place of social classes", the author
writes: "Gender or racist oppressions cannot be limited to being only a
consequence of capitalist organization. They will not disappear with the
end of this one... But class domination runs through all of society...
it is therefore necessary to put these questions at the heart of the
class struggle..."

Thus, the author opposes post-modernism, which by denouncing any attempt
to make all historical facts coherent, leads to withdrawal among oneself
and to a vision of society split into multiple antagonistic social groups.

Without denying the need for expression and the specific organization of
the oppressed, he advocates a renewed universalism, respectful of
different cultures.

This book, rich and dense, but not exhaustive, is above all an
observation. It calls, as announced, for a sequel where the possible
perspectives should be discussed.
