It is time for new beginnings, and it is with great enthusiasm and proudness that we present the already 10th season of the Brussels Chopin Days, being opened by pianist Martin Garcia Garcia.
We couldn't be more happy to welcome the Spanish virtuoso in Brussels:
at the age of just 27 he is busy conquering the piano world leaving press and public speechless after his magical concerts, every single time.
He too will honor the work and life of Frédéric Chopin, a composer that will forever play a special role in his life after becoming the 3rd Prize Winner of the International F. Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 2021, a year in which he also became 1st Prize Winner of the Cleveland International Piano Competition.
Two incredible achievements that resulted in more than 70 concerts around the globe in halls such as Carnegie Hall in New York or the Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
Feeling totally at ease with Chopin's music, he also released his first album named 'Chopin and His Master', receiving international praise.
It is on Friday 29 September that he will come to Brussels, and this with a fantastic and varied program.
One could say that he chooses to devote the first part of the concert to various danceforms Chopin wrote in.
He chooses to open his recital with the breathtaking and mature Barcarolle, Op. 60, followed by the well-known Grande Valse Brillante, Op. 18.
The waltz is followed by the highly virtuosic and tragic Polonaise, Op. 44, a symbol of Chopin's nostalgy to his homeland.
Hereafter, some charm and lightness come in, with the 2 Grandes Valses Brillantes, Op. 64 and the 3 Grandes Valse Brillantes, Op. 34.
After the break, Martin Garcia Garcia chooses to make a well thought selection of Preludes, Op. 28 followed by the Piano Sonata Nr. 2, Op. 35.
The four-movement sonata is considered as one of the absolute highlights in piano literature, and is also known as the 'Sonate Funèbre' for its funeral march in the third movement.
This promises to be spectacular in the hands of Martin Garcia Garcia.
You may not miss this.
