According to the police chief, most rapes are the invention of women,
and according to politicians, it is pointless to join the declarationagainst violence against women. ---- The list of Czech cultural heritagestill seems to proudly include violence against the weak and thedisparagement of the victims of this violence. For example, according toresearch, roughly three-quarters of local residents had no idea what theso-called Istanbul Convention was about when it was supposed to be(dis)approved in the Parliament. To their credit, they at least had noopinion on whether she should approve. Today, there is more awareness ofthe "Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violenceagainst Women and Domestic Violence" because conservatives of allstripes - from Catholic to political universal xenophobes - have takencare of it.It is a shame to talk about the churches and their opinions, which theydig out from under the reeds of Austria-Hungary. On the other hand, thepoliticians' arguments are literally beyond the border of embarrassment,like when they claim that some document cannot prevent violence infamilies, that it is ideological and contains the forbidden (who knowswhy) word gender. Simply put: we cannot accept violence against womenand in families. And anyway, they have themselves to blame.Before the elections, the politicians here told us up and down how weare part of the West and that they will make sure it is so. But somehow(apparently on purpose) they forgot to add that they intend to go tothat dream West by a rather strange route - through authoritarianHungary or through the Turkey of the proto-fascist dictator Erdogan.After all, they are one of the few who also refuse to ratify theIstanbul Convention. It is not surprising, because in its tone it deniesthe traditional patriarchal values defended so much by them, whichinclude the superiority of men over women and the resulting need to keepwomen in a subordinate position, and when the situation calls for it, touse some traditional domestic violence. The family is the foundation ofthe state, as is popularly said, and even in any well-governed state,those at the top maintain their supremacy and power by the threat ofviolence. And in the event that those who only have the role of workersand obedient people start jumping up and shouting in the streets aboutsome rights, they need to be properly dealt with. To remember wheretheir place is. And so it is with women in the blessed traditionalfamily, which our non-negotiable conservatives try to defend sovehemently despite all sorts of conventions.Recently, we had the opportunity to observe how violence againstinferior members of society and families is well connected. It was takencare of by the statements of the head of the police, who so bravelyhelps and protects - for example, when he helps the coal barons toprotect their interests and profits from the hardened defenders of theclimate and the planet, who dare to attack the infrastructure of thefossil business in their climate camps. The very business that showsenormous profits at a time when people are going into debt because theydon't have the money to pay the rising energy prices. But thetraditional order must be preserved - the rich have the right to getricher and the rest, including future generations, only have the rightto shut up and move on. Just like in the traditional patriarchal family,for which conservative politicians fight with such vigor.And what did the good-natured chief of police say? When asked aboutsexual violence, he gave a clear answer that "very often, very often, awoman's report of some sexual violence is fabricated." Is that a lie?Does not matter. Mistaking impressions for concepts is something thatmany have become accustomed to and don't even think about. Malevolentwomen who fight violence against women have criticized him for framingthe issue of sexual violence as undermining all efforts to create a safeand supportive environment for survivors. And this was supported bystudies, according to which 42 false reports of rape account for 11,000rapes per year that are not reported at all. It must be added that inthe vast majority of cases of rape, the perpetrator is known to thevictim and is often in some family relationship with her.The Police President, of course, as is our established custom, feels nowrongdoing. While in many countries in the much-admired West he wouldhave walked long ago, in the musty Czech basin there is silence alongthe footpath. And it is no wonder that disdain for social equality isextolled as a virtue by leading politicians. Let alone that anyone evendares to think about some kind of economic equality.Therefore, we will not see a declarative condemnation of violenceagainst women under the current political representation - whethergovernment or opposition (what is the difference?) -. And why is thatso?
