 The war in Ukraine continues with all the negative consequences for much

of the world. However, acts of desertion and draft evasion also
continue, which, if widespread, could significantly contribute to ending
the war. Anarchists from the Central European region therefore publish
this call to organize active support for deserters. Wherever we live,
let us make every other day a day of international solidarity of the
working class and resistance to war. Let's organize in the workplace, in
schools and in the streets with the aim of strengthening the influence
of desertion. Let us fight for decent conditions for all who refuse to
serve as cannon fodder in the inter-imperialist war.

At least 200,000 people are fleeing Russia from Putin's announced
military mobilization, and tens of thousands more are avoiding
mobilization in Ukraine. Nevertheless, some voices claim that "the
number of deserters is so insignificant that it is strange to even start
talking about it." It is necessary to distinguish against these cynical
efforts to "invisible" people who choose not to serve in the army,
desert or emigrate for political reasons. The voices of these people
must be heard and it is essential to provide them with practical help.

Anti-war speeches do not yet have the sufficient subversive power needed
to stop the war, and it is precisely for this reason that it is
necessary to create conditions that will make it easier for other people
inclined to desertion to move from thoughts to actions. It is not a
matter of standing on the front line between the tanks of the two armies
and thinking that by doing so we will make the soldiers lay down their
arms. The point is to achieve conditions at the international level that
will ensure deserters safe defection and the possibility to live in
another country without the risk of criminal prosecution and social
stigmatization.

At present, opponents of the war in Russia and Ukraine have almost
nowhere to turn. They are trapped between national borders by their
"own" governments, while the surrounding countries refuse to accept them
and provide them with a decent background. If people's choices continue
to be limited to the options of "either forced to serve in the army or
face persecution", we can hardly expect an increase in desertion.
Borders must be opened not only for civilian refugees but also for army
deserters on both sides of the battle line. This is precisely what can
significantly weaken the dynamics of war.

But this will never be achieved by negotiations with various
governments, which are only local minions of world capital, or by
social-democratic calls for "concessions on migration policy". Our only
weapon for us proletarians is the class struggle, mobilization in the
streets, sabotaging the economy and direct action against permanent
war... Only then is the frightened ruling class forced to retreat, which
for us will never be the goal of the struggle, but only the moment from
which it is new attacks must be made against this whole world of misery
and war...

After all, the proclamations of politicians criticizing the aggression
of the Russian army are a manifestation of hypocrisy, when at the same
time they refuse to share facilities and resources with people who
refuse to serve in the army. And besides, why and how would these
dignified representatives of the bourgeois order act differently!? It is
necessary to stand consistently against Putin's aggressors as well as
against the statesmen of other countries who, with their own policies,
allow the military to maintain its war potential. It is the governments
of the countries in which we live that actually complicate the
possibilities of desertion, thereby contributing to the continuation of
the war.

Those who are concerned with saving human life should consider how to
weaken armies, how to draw soldiers from the front, how to make them
obey, how to motivate them to use their weapons against those who force
them to go to war. Let's think about it and organize direct actions that
will bring these thoughts to concrete results.
