In the general de-ideologicalization but also the confusion of our
times, neat, sonorous and new terms are heard that come to surpass theold, outdated discourse of the previous movements. They are often wideenough to accommodate, if not all, at least most of them. Somethingsimilar happens with the appeal to the "Competitive movement" or the"world of struggle" as an offshoot of the first to include under oneumbrella the space of the extra-parliamentary left, urban movements,popular assemblies, grassroots unions, communistized groups, theanti-authoritarian or even the Anarchist space. ---- In essence it is aterm coined by the sociologist Alberto Melucci, who identified fourtypes of behavior in the new social movements:* Competitive movement* Conflict networking* Assertive movement* Political movementThe competitive movement is one that challenges the existing social andpolitical system in the most fundamental way. It does not merelyquestion the distribution of resources among various social classes andgroups but above all the ideological and organizational basis for theproduction, distribution and exchange of important social and economicgoods.Actors participating in the competitive movement often adopt the logicof direct action, and this choice is made not only in terms of ideology,because reference to anti-capitalism or opposition to power is notideology. At certain times such movements appear with specific contextsand are parts of existing mass movements and are initially treated as athreat to the system that tries to suppress them. Especially if they donot have a solid ideological reference.A competitive movement can lead to the general denial of mediationprocesses and can be transfigured as revolutionary, either by takingforms of integration, assimilation into fenced-off areas ofcounter-culture that usually end up being the object of commodificationand ultimately a peculiar integration into the very system that isfundamentally supposed to they dispute.Anarchism is more than a "competitive movement" because in its historyit also created conflicting networks (propaganda with action). It hadclaims (8 hours - Anarchists Chicago, anarcho-syndicalism, while it is aclear ideological and political movement, in which not everyone fits ingeneral and vague because it has specific goals, choices and ethicssince it considers that the means must be consistent with the ends andvice versa.So in my opinion the term competitive movement is misplaced forAnarchism.
