Giuseppe Dambrosio's analyzes in Power, subjectivity, post-modernity
published in 2021 by Sensibili alle leaves start, in my opinion,inevitably from the studies of Michel Foucault and in particular fromLes Anormaux, to then propose updates and insights on current socialdynamics , and the consequent individual perceptions, in the era ofdigital neoliberalism and technocratic drifts. ---- The author'sreflections, also thanks to the effective expository synthesis,introduce us to the exploration of different but intertwined terrainsbecause they are planned to obtain ever greater tools of control,especially through that training in self-discipline which is Foucaulthad the opportunity to observe. And so we ask ourselves what forms ofresistance to power can be implemented if, rather than being faced withexplicit limitations of freedom, we are increasingly channeled into asocial structure that constrains behaviors and relationships to such anextent as to lead us to consider it captivating.The contributions of various authors thus intersect in the text (Augé,Bauman, Baudrillard, Benasayag, Frances, Laffi, Lazzarini, Massa,Palmieri, and Pierangelo Barone, author of the preface) testifying tothe different implications produced by these epochal changes.The book is divided into two parts: The medicalisation of differences,the title of the first, analyzes how the concept of normalizationpervades relationships (especially where power can be established:doctor/patient, teacher/student) and establishes a judgmental, edifiedlanguage on unscientific and arbitrary concepts, capable of widening themesh of anomalies (pathologies) creating discrimination (psychiatrization).Dambrosio writes: "Since performance standards have increaseddramatically and external stimuli nowadays act in a continuous andinvasive way, one too many symptoms is enough to be defined as abnormaland therefore subject to a pharmacological-re-educational treatmentaimed at recovery or prevention. continuation of deviance and socialmarginality" (...) "The result is total conformity to an intelligencewhich is nothing other than the ability to disintegrate to conform tothe post-modern company system". A system in which the only admissiblemodality corresponds to "that of homo consumens, docile and functionalto the dominant neoliberal system, in which those who do not return arere-educated to the Norm".And on the concept of education and critical pedagogy the author focuseshis energies to offer ideas for dialogue on the possibilities ofcounteracting the sense of collective impotence to put an "end to thedevice of annihilation of the subject's freedom, to take on that ofteaching ways through which the individual can practice freedom".Subjugation and subjectivation in the post-modern era is the title ofthe second part of the book: if Foucault inaugurated the concept of"device" to identify the structural elements of the complex system ofconditioning of choices, in times increasingly organized on algorithmsand digital exasperations we are dragged into a space-time drift thatinvolves our bodies, modifies the possibilities of action and theperception of opportunities, creating illusory gratifications.
