glorification of war to justify huge military expenditures, the shipmentof arms and Italy's direct involvement in military missions abroad, fromUkraine to Africa . ---- Wars, rapes, land occupations, bombings,tortures, the entire collection of human horrors, if carried out by menand women employed in an army, becomes legitimate, necessary, opportune,heroic. ---- The parade uniforms, the flags, the medals, the triad "god,country, family" are not the mere legacy of a more rhetorical andmagniloquent past than our present, but the ever-present representationof the imperialist attitude and neocolonial state of Italy.Italy is at war. The Italian armed forces are directly involved in 43military missions abroad, 18 of which in Africa, where the Italiantroops wage war on migrants and defend the interests of giants such as ENI.Italy is at war. From Italian, NATO and US military bases on Italianterritory, the drones that manage intelligence for the Ukrainian armytake off every day.Italy is at war. A few steps from our homes, the weapons used in warseverywhere are produced and tested. Italian troops use them in "peace"missions abroad, Italian industries sell them to countries at war. Theseweapons have killed millions of people, destroyed cities and villages,irreparably poisoned entire territories.Italy is at war. The military are increasingly present on the streets ofour cities, in the suburbs where the ranks of the homeless, withoutincome, precarious are lengthening. They serve to prevent and repressany social insurgency, to silence anyone who rebels against anincreasingly ferocious social order.Neighborhoods, schools, universities, squares, workplaces: by now thereis no social sphere safe from the rising militarist tide. The war thatis being fought in Ukraine has given a further and dramatic push towardsa worldwide rearmament with unpredictable results.Opposing war and militarism is an essential requirement.The path of the Antimilitarist Assembly, which brings together localgroups and assemblies that have always fought against militarism andwar, in almost two years of activity has been able to extend to otherterritories, building initiatives on a national scale and supporting themost important local struggles.Today we would all like to enlist in the imperialist war between Russiaand Ukraine. We're not here. We are not enlisting either with NATO orwith Russia. We reject patriotic rhetoric as an element oflegitimization of states and their expansionary claims.
