My name is Olga and I am a lesbian woman from Russia.

I can no longer live in safety and freedom here – just because of who I am and who I love.

President Putin's regime has actively persecuted LGBT+ people for decades. But things are getting much worse now. With the passing of the new "gay propaganda" law, if I speak openly about being a lesbian, I could end up in jail. And the recent law banning gender-affirming care leaves some of my trans friends desperate.

We are denied basic human rights and the stigma against us is so harsh, that we are forced to isolate ourselves and live in the shadows. For me, things got very lonely and isolating...

But I was lucky enough to learn about Coming Out, an LGBT+ initiative run by incredibly brave and committed people, that helps queer folks experience community, safety, and empowerment here in Russia.

Without them, it would've been impossible for me to know about how at risk I was from the new anti-LGBT+ legislation. It would have been impossible for me to ease my terrible isolation by meeting like-minded people. They have even helped me come out to my parents and close friends. They are really the only safe space left for us.

And now, they really need your help. As I'm sure you can imagine, it's incredibly challenging to operate as an LGBT+ organization here in Russia and Coming Out is quickly running out of funds. Can you please donate $5 to help them keep their doors open?

I know that the anti-LGBT+ laws here in Russia will lead to increased cases of suicide and depression. Because, under this regime, we live in constant fear.

We need Coming Out. They give hope and strength to Russian LGBT+ people living under impossible circumstances. Because of them, I feel powerful, confident, and ready to stand up for my rights.
