September 28 is International Abortion Rights Day: this year again it iscrucial to mobilize massively, in France and throughout the world.Control of the bodies of women and gender minorities is a powerful leverof patriarchal domination, and very often a Trojan horse of fascism:seeking to control our bodies is seeking to establish domination overour lives. ---- A very worrying year ---- If the right to abortion seemsacquired in France, this is not at all the case. As the failure toconstitutionalize the right to abortion has shown, the state of forcesin France is not very favorable to this fundamental right. It thusremains fragile, likely to disappear at the discretion of governments,their bills and the restriction of access to care. It can be taken awayfrom us. The United States showed it in 2022: the right to abortion isincreasingly threatened. While Macron makes pretty promises on theoccasion of March 8, never kept, subsidies for Family Planning areeliminated and reactionary ideas are progressing, as evidenced inparticular by the anti-abortion campaigns which have covered the Vélibin several cities in France in June 2023.Throughout the country, women and gender minorities do not or no longerhave access to abortion, due to a lack of resources in hospitals andassociations, and because of the cumbersome procedure.Let's amplify the mobilizationLast year, we won the extension from 12 to 14 weeks of the legaldeadline for abortion and several cities in France experienced theirgreatest mobilization on the occasion of September 28. We must notweaken. Let us be more and more numerous in this battle! Solidarity isour weapon, in France and internationally. Like our sisters in Mexicowho won the right to abortion this month, let us continue the fight sothat our freedom to dispose of our bodies is finally fully respected.September 28, but why?This date was chosen by the women of Latin America and the Caribbean torefer to the Brazilian law known as the "Free Belly" of September 28,1871, which liberated all children born to slave parents: taking up theslogan "for a belly free", the idea is that the end of slavery is alsothe end of the slavery of the belly.
