 The war is spreading. All over the world, new conflicts are ignited and

old ones are rekindled. From Europe to the Middle East, from Africa to
Ukraine, from Palestine to Sudan, the front of violence and blood is
expanding. Once again we are witnessing the warmongering and
militaristic propaganda that the bourgeoisie is putting in place to
convince us that we should take one side or the other. Imperialism, with
its burden of destruction, sharpens its aims of economic, financial and
political expansion in the face of changing global balances of power.
Billions of euros are spent on military spending, to pay mercenaries, to
manufacture weapons, and social spending, pensions, income support,
schools and public healthcare are cut - while private spending enjoys
huge state funding. Care of the territory, which would require strong
public intervention, is completely neglected, in the face of
environmental degradation which has increasingly devastating effects. On
the opposite side we note with interest and participation the revival in
Italy of anti-militarist and anti-war movements, assemblies and
committees of citizens who are fighting against the opening of new
military bases - as in the case of the No Base movement in Coltano - and
for the closing of shooting ranges, to counter militarist propaganda in
schools and to denounce the war economy, an expression of the interests
of the bourgeoisie. Empty the arsenals and fill the granaries: we are
still here repeating the teaching that the history of the oppressed has
handed down to us. Our gaze on the present cannot fail to take this into
account, because today, as always, wars are decided by the powerful and
made and paid for by the workers. As internationalists and
revolutionaries we escape this game of massacre, we will never be
complicit in the conflicts between powers that are played on our skin.
We stand alongside those fleeing war, deserters and refugees - who must
be supported and welcomed in every latitude of the world - and we claim
the right to refuse to take up arms and place ourselves at the service
of any army. The anti-militarist battle needs all of us: the interests
of workers are not those that governments and military commands offer us
and the fight against patriarchy also involves the rejection of the male
hierarchies typical of militarism. The society we want, which still
seems like a utopia to many, is a society without classes, without war
and violence, without borders, without domination of man over man and
over nature. Let's cut military spending and increase social spending:
our lives must not be sacrificed, neither on the battlefields of the
bosses' wars nor in the social suffering that the war economy imposes on
us. For these reasons Alternativa Libertaria/FdCA is joining the
demonstrations on 21 October which will be held in Ghedi (Brescia), in
front of the military base which hosts dozens of atomic bombs, and in
San Piero in Grado (Pisa), to stop the construction of the new base.
