I LAUGH YOU NO! - Provincial demonstration against gender violence ----
25 November 2023 - Ragusa 10.00 am ---- POLITICAL MANIFESTO ---- ThisNovember 25th will not be like all the others. ---- This year we gottired of keeping track of the endless series of feminicides, of reelingoff the unstoppable chain of rapes and harassment and of being forced tolisten to the toxic and distorted narratives given by the press andcertain politicians. ---- This year we are even more tired, angry andfurious than ever, but certainly not resigned.This November 25th we will burst with all our power and our righteousanger into the streets and squares of Ragusa, converging from all overthe province for a united demonstration that will see us united and insolidarity affirming our NO!NO! to the patriarchal system that still cages and oppresses the livesof women and all subjectivities that do not conform tocis-heteronormative models. Femicides and trans*cides are the tip of theiceberg of a system that wants us to be subordinate and silenced, asystem that today we want to overthrow by uniting our voices and ourcollective strength.NO! to rape culture, a naturalized expression of that system, in all itsdifferent manifestations: from sexual to verbal violence, from therepresentation of our bodies as objects to be appropriated to thesystematic denial of our self-determination every time we are told how (not) to dress, which places (not) to frequent and how sober we must beif we don't want to "look for it".NO! to the violation of our freedom of choice and the denial ofreproductive rights. The right to abortion cannot be touched, ifanything, law 194 must be fully applied, and conscientious objection toour bodies and our lives must be firmly rejected. Just as we reject tothe sender the measures in favor of the birth rate included in thebudget law for 2024 by Giorgia Meloni's government, according to which awoman with "at least" two children has already paid her contribution tosociety. We are not willing to trade our self-determination and equalrights and opportunities in exchange for insidious concessions, throughwhich this government wants to clear aberrant family logic.On the contrary, we say NO! to the wage disparity and the unequaldistribution of care work, still carried out exclusively by three out offour women: conditions that limit our independence, exposing us toeconomic violence hidden within the home.And again, NO! to the impoverishment of anti-violence centers andshelters: cutting funding to the protection networks of women who sufferviolence is yet another form of institutional violence acted on ourbodies and our lives.Let's say NO! to prejudice against sex workers: the taboo surroundingsex work and the stigmatization of sex workers have profoundconsequences on the narrative linked to gender violence andsignificantly contribute to their marginalization, making it difficultto access protection services and support. This prejudice directlyaffects the perception of violence towards them. Often, attacks on sexworkers are not addressed as seriously as other forms of gender-basedviolence. There are no second-class women and second-class women: sexwork is work!Finally, NO! to the security and repressive policies adopted in ourname. It is not by militarizing cities or increasing penalties that wewill feel safe, but by building a community that wholeheartedly rejectsgender violence. We will never ignore the instrumental narratives thatexploit episodes of violence to racialize, southernize, "bestialize" andin any other way criminalize specific social categories, absolving therest of society. Gender violence, we reiterate once again, istransversal and systemic, and "the rapist is not sick, he is the healthyson of patriarchy": no one should feel absolved of responsibility!I didn't laugh at you! it is the cry of revolt that represents us all,each with our own different experiences, but united by the bond ofsisterhood that makes us strong and secure.But I didn't laugh at you! it is also a precise program of positivemeasures that we will implement in our daily action at the varioussocial and political levels that see us engaged on the front line: incounseling centers and hospitals, in schools, in anti-violence centers,in associations and trade unions, in within institutions and the media:* to protect and strengthen anti-violence centers and protectionstructures for women at risk of violence, ensuring full and timelyaccessibility of low-threshold structures and the extension of emergencyincome for as long as necessary to achieve concrete economic independence* to spread education on consent, affectivity, differences and positivesexuality in schools and in all educational contexts* to guarantee the right to free and safe abortion, free contraceptionand correct and complete information on health services* to obtain equal pay, economic recognition of domestic work and publicservices that allow family-work conciliation on an equal basis* to start a process of cultural transformation, subvert the toxicnarratives of gender violence that expose and blame those who suffer itor pass off what is systemic as exceptional, and call the entire societyto its collective responsibility.I LAUGH AT YOU NO, WE SAY IT IN ALL THE LANGUAGES OF THE WORLD!https://www.sicilialibertaria.it/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
