We went to the cinema attracted by the great things said about this
first film as director by the talented Paola Cortellesi "There's StillTomorrow". And indeed 99.9% of the film did not fall short ofexpectations. The story is that of a family with the dominant andviolent male, the slave and abused wife who tries to defend herself bycultivating a well-simulated revenge. We are in a Rome still wounded bythe war and occupied by the marines, on the eve of 2 June 1946, whenwomen were allowed to vote in political elections for the first time.---- So what does our Paola do? After having scripted a mountain ofviolence against women and having prepared the spectator for theimminent act of rupture of the protagonist (Paola herself), here shegives birth to the little mouse: the protagonist-victim does not abandonher husband; she does not run away with her true love; she doesn'tchoose freedom over oppression, but she... goes to vote! And this ispresented to us with tear-jerking emphasis as the liberating act of thisunfortunate woman among many.As if 80 years of violence against women hadn't passed; of ChristianDemocracy followed by a worse Forza Italia; of dominant clericalism; ofabortion and other achievements blocked by deliberately ambiguous laws;of record feminicides; of wars and civilian victims in which Italyparticipates with militaristic pride. As if we didn't have areactionary, patriarchal and clerical-fascist fascist-League government.Have women liberated themselves with the right to vote? At the beginningof the 20th century, Emma Goldman warned the suffragettes not to fallinto the electoral trap: the men failed, why should the women succeed?Isn't it still a question of continuing to delegate one's life to agovernment? That's why the film was such a disappointment; even stronger because itspreads the electoralist illusion at the moment of maximum decline ofthe democratic voting practice and of an increasingly shameful violentpractice, physical and moral, towards women and every gender that doesnot conform to the catho-patriarchal doctrine.https://www.sicilialibertaria.it/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
