The international picture is changing rapidly. The USA is a divided
country (Capitol Hill) and in crisis (Afganistan): the season ofInfinite War has long been over. Russia has regained its share afteryears of humiliation. China, as an imperial power, is deploying all itsstrength but using shrewd diplomacy, providing infrastructure andservices, hoarding raw materials and creating relationships in adifferent way than the Americans and Westerners did. All thiscontributes to rewriting the balance of power at a global level.The USA no longer has the intervention force it once had and is payingthe price; their rivals have understood this, while Europe is rightlyconsidered a geographical expression.This is where Hamas's attack begins. The invasion of Ukraine was also aclear signal: Russia would never have attacked if it had not perceivedthe US crisis and had not felt covered by China.There are already fault lines in Africa, and now in Palestine, where anunprecedented breach of Israeli defenses has occurred: Hamas and therest of the Palestinian armed components have done what no one else hadmanaged to do. Israel is also divided and deeply worried: this time itcould really be erased from the map, which is why its response was angryand powerful, putting the Gaza Strip under siege and starting aninvasion of land from the sea and the sky, sowing death and destructionamong the Palestinians. He wants to eliminate Hamas but so far he iskilling Palestinians. It was clear that the Israeli response would beruthless and that it would spark widespread public mobilization worldwide.Hamas' war action, with the death of at least a thousand Israelicivilians and the kidnapping of around 240 people, served to open thesecond war front in the world after Ukraine. Now the Middle Eastern areais in fibrillation, there is fighting on the Lebanese border and thereare clashes on the Golan Heights. All the conditions exist for anexpansion of the conflict. Diplomacy is in fact in difficulty, it is theweapons that are being negotiated.The Americans are preparing for scenarios present so far only in warmanuals: the aircraft carriers sent do not have a deterrent function: ifthere were an Iranian attack on Israel the USA would intervene, but themore fronts open, the more the USA gets into difficulty. Alliances arealso variable, Turkey is in solidarity with Hamas and attacks Israelpolitically, persevering in its ambiguous attitude; I wouldn't besurprised if it also questioned its membership in NATO.At this juncture NATO supports Israel from Sicily; planes loaded withweapons depart from Sigonella and the Muos supports military operationsfrom Niscemi.Since 23 October, for twenty-five days, air-naval exercises have beenunderway in Italian territorial waters, with unprecedented firepower, tosend unequivocal messages of war to the enemies of liberal democraciesand autocratic regimes in the East. As I write, there is heavy fightingbetween Israelis and Hamas in Gaza, with the war situation becomingincreasingly heated hour after hour.The newborn BRICS experience is a work in progress, but at the moment itis the military alliances that are changing the cards on the table.There are all the signs for a war involving Italy. The war climate isleading to the repression of dissent; every slightest discordant voiceis accused of collaboration with the enemies of "democracy". We arefaced with a historical test, in many ways similar to previous worldwars.
