This happening so close to Thanksgiving is a cruel irony A Native American Child Grew Out His Hair to Honor His Heritage. His School Told Him to Cut It or He Would Be Suspended.      Sign Now      Dear friends,   Over the summer, an 8-year-old boy from Kansas attended a youth event of the Wyandotte Nation, to which he belongs. After witnessing the tribe's rich cultural and spiritual traditions, he decided to grow his hair long to honor his ancestry. But shockingly, when the boy returned to school in August, he was callously told that he had to cut his hair or be suspended. This is an outrage.   This injustice happening so close to Thanksgiving is a cruel irony. Native American land, culture, and traditions have been stolen and erased for centuries in the US. Now a Native American boy is a direct target of related injustice at just 8 years old.   This was racially motivated discrimination, plain and simple. For so many cultures, hair is a vital part of expressing traditions and celebrating ancestry. R.V. Haderlein Elementary School's squashing of that expression, without a second thought, cannot be tolerated.   That's why we're demanding a public apology and an investigation into how this incident escalated in this way. Sign the petition.
