Workers' and anarchist newspapers have always played a fundamental role
in socialist, anti-capitalist and anti-statist criticism, as well as in
strengthening the processes of popular struggle in which libertarians
were involved. In this sense, Libera, an anarchist newspaper founded in
June 1991 in Rio de Janeiro, is a historical continuity of the anarchist
newspapers of previous decades. Created by activists from the Círculo de
Estudos Libertários (CEL), an anarchist space founded in 1985 also in
Rio de Janeiro, Libera emerged with the task of disseminating CEL's
activities and strengthening ties between anarchists, until then very
dispersed. , when we had just emerged from a long military dictatorship.
In the decade of its emergence, Libera was an important instrument for
the reorganization of anarchism in Brazil and in its willingness to link
anarchism to popular struggles. In the beginning, the periodical was
called Libera...Amore Mio (a name chosen by the late companion Pedro
Kroupa) in reference to the 1975 Italian film directed by Mauro
Bolognini, which was set in fascist Italy, starring actress Claudia
Cardinale in the role of Libera Valente, a strong and courageous woman
who could not stand fascism. As CEL's monthly newsletter, Libera, in
addition to the space's weekly programming, publicized anti-capitalist
struggles and social mobilizations, making it possible to connect
anarchists from different states, in an embryonic attempt at national
articulation in the early 1990s. neoliberalism and the crisis of
socialism, but also the struggles against privatization and the
emergence of numerous anarchist collectives and spaces.
It was from 1995 onwards that Libera began to publicize the experience
of the Uruguayan Anarchist Federation (fAu) and helped to spread
especifism, previously unknown in Brazil, whose first organization was
the Gaúcha Anarchist Federation (FAG), founded in November 1995. It was
during this period that the Círculo de Estudos Libertários changed its
name to Círculo de Estudos Libertários Ideal Peres (CELIP), in honor of
the activist who died on August 16 of that year. Between the end of 1995
and the beginning of 1996, the Brazilian Anarchist Construction proposal
was launched, an organizational platform that aimed to "create, in the
short term (from 1996 to 2001), (...) specific instances of anarchism as
a force organized politics (...), at local, micro-regional and state
levels" (OASL/FARJ, Elements for a historical reconstitution, 2012). The
dissemination of this proposal began to influence part of Brazilian
anarchism, which adopted the line of a combative, classist anarchism,
inserted in popular struggles and with a strong political-militant
commitment.
Reconstruction of the proposal for a national anarchist organization
 From the 2000s onwards, Brazilian especifista anarchism was structured
around the Organized Anarchism Forum (FAO), which in 2012 developed into
the political project of the Brazilian Anarchist Coordination (CAB). It
is in this context, between comings and goings, that the Anarchist
Federation of Rio de Janeiro (FARJ), Rusga Libertária, from Mato Grosso,
the Anarchist Socialism Libertarian Organization (OASL), from São Paulo,
and the Coletivo Mineiro Popular Anarquista (COMPA ), from Minas Gerais,
established themselves and established themselves.
However, after 10 years of CAB, these four organizations chose to follow
a different path. The details and reasons for the Coordination's
departure are set out in another text, which can be read later. What is
important to say here is that, in 2022, they ended their participation
in the construction of the CAB, and together with some other individuals
and groups from other states, they decided to move on to a new stage.

Founding of OSL
After a long process of debate, the organizations OASL, FARJ, RUSGA
LIBERTÁRIA and COMPA, meeting in congress, founded the Libertarian
Socialist Organization (OSL) and adopted Libera as the official
newspaper of the new organization. This decision is a public recognition
of the importance of Libera for organized anarchism and especifism in
Brazil. Libera is the longest-running newspaper in the history of
anarchism in Brazil and is now continued by militants from different
generations, united in a national organization project, whose commitment
to socialism, classism and freedom become the connecting links between
past, present and future. From the next issue onwards, Libera will be
the official journal of the OSL and will continue to publicize social
struggles, reinforcing anti-capitalism, anti-statism and the need for a
social revolution that destroys capitalism, racism and patriarchy and
builds popular self-government of workers.
 From the next issue onwards, our newspaper, Libera, will represent this
change of line and organizational advancement, which we hope will
contribute to the path of the Brazilian social revolution,
anti-capitalist, anti-statist, socialist and libertarian!
