Today we commemorate the 101st anniversary of the death of the
world-famous writer and lesser-known anarchist Jaroslav Hashek.----Jaroslav Hashek died on the third of January 1923 at the age of 40.After his death, he became the most famous Czech writer in the world -not so much as the author of many hundreds of short stories and humorousnovels, but mainly thanks to his novel The Fate of the Good SoldierShvejk during the World War . ---- Last year, on the occasion of thecentenary of his death, we remembered him in many ways not only as awriter, but also as an anarchist and a person for whom no authority wassacred.Throughout last year, we published Hashek's texts and photos on ourwebsite as part of the series Hashek 2023 , which had a total of 17parts. These mainly consisted of short stories, feuilletons and humorouspieces written by Hashek for the anarchist newspapers Omladina ( Klínovýnavrast ), Nová Omladina ( Pan Gloatz, a fighter for the rights of thepeople , A story about a good Swedish soldier , About New Year's Eve ),Komuna ( With God, do every work... , Frantík's 1st May , At the lastfeuilleton... , Nice news has passed... , Electoral history ), Chudas (Law ) and Matice Svoboda ( How Mr. Catechist and I took care of thebaptism of little blacks in Africa , Hometown... ). But we alsopublished Hashek's portrayal of personalities such as Karel Pelant orJirí Mahen and Josef Mach , or the mystifying treatment of his arrestduring the anarchist May Day demonstration in 1907 in The Tale of theBlack Bull . In the series, we also gave space to a memory of Hashekfrom one of his friends, Václav Menger. Most of the above-mentioned texts, along with many others, appeared inthe book Vshivá historie , which was published by the AnarchistFederation Publishing House on the occasion of last year's AnarchistBook Festival . It is a collection of short stories, humorous sketches, poems and feuilletons published by Jaroslav Hashek in theabove-mentioned anarchist newspapers, while in some of them he worked astheir paid editor between 1904 and 1907. Where necessary, the realitiesmentioned in the stories are provided with explanatory notes. Thepublication is 196 A6 pages long, and the recommended contribution tocover costs is CZK 150. You can get it at distribution points or orderit in the Roleta39 e-shop .We also dedicated the spring issue of the anarchist review Existence toJaroslav Hashek . On its pages, we devote extensive attention to hislife and work, and pay special attention to his engagement in theanarchist movement and anti-authoritarian attitudes accompanying hisentire life. Existence No. 1/2023 can also be found at the usualdistribution points or ordered in the Roleta39 e-shop .Logically, the traditional Existence Party was also dedicated to Hashek, which is always connected with the theme of the magazine. It tookplace on November 23 in the Trhlina infoshop in Nusel . During thelecture, which ended with a debate, we tried to capture Hashek not onlyas an active anarchist, but also comprehensively as a student, a fool, apoet, an editor, a mystifier, a husband, a queer person, a drunkard, anentrepreneur, an election candidate, a father, an entertainer, asoldier, a legionnaire, a multiple traitor , a red commissar, areturnee, a bigamist or a novelist.Although today we commemorate the anniversary of Hashek's death, heremains immortal for us and we will be happy to return to him in the future.https://www.afed.cz/text/8081/pocta-jaroslavu-haskovi_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
