The Prague and Ústí groups of the Czechoslovak Anarchist Association(CAS) have decided to establish a federation magazine. How can weevaluate his first issue? ---- First of all, it is necessary to paytribute to the fact that anarchists in the Czech Republic have embarkedon such an ambitious project as the regular publication of a twenty-pagecolor magazine. Let us remind you that A-kontra disappeared completely,Existence was reduced from a quarterly to a biannual, and the otheranarchist magazines were long gone. Will CASák fill the missing place inthe field of anti-authoritarian journalism? The first issue is particularly interesting with the number ofstatements, appeals and pamphlets - the authors published a call for ageneral strike, a solidarity position with Gaza, with teachers and ananti-war statement by the IFA. There is also an introductory statementby CAS and its local groups. The columns "From home" or "From the world"are therefore not informative, rather they try to agitate in the form ofcombative commentary. However, the magazine also contains chapters on the history of themovement, for example an excellent article on anarchy on the island ofTristan da Cunha and a reminder of the original CAS from 1989. It alsointroduces readers to the basics of anarchism in the articleIntroduction to Anarchist Socialism in a relatively comprehensible manner. What is the room for improvement? Especially in a formal setting. Manyarticles do not have a source or author, and even if they are taken, they appear to be exclusive. The division of paragraphs is oftenconfusing, the text from one section sometimes ends on the other side inanother section. The fact that the account number of the Zádruhaassociation, to which magazine subscriptions can be sent, is alsostrange in the imprint. It can cause speculation to what extent the twoorganizations are connected, and from a security point of view it isalso a non-negligible security risk. Even the English article about Gazadoes not make much sense, the translation would - if anything - needmore of an introductory word from the editors. However, let's be surprised by other numbers, if the magazine were toundergo formal modifications and bring more exclusive news from home andthe world, interviews or discussions on the state of the movement, itcould bring a breath of fresh air into the anti-authoritarian pond.https://oafed.noblogs.org/post/2023/12/30/recenze-casak-c-1/#more-1181_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
