As the Green Trades Initiative within the basic union federation FAU¹,we, workers from agriculture, horticulture, forestry and environmentalprofessions, declare our resolute solidarity with the protests againstthe decisions to abolish agricultural diesel reimbursement and vehicletax exemption. It is absurd - although unfortunately not surprising -that the government is putting the red pencil on this vital industry, which has been characterized by existential fears, overwork andprecariousness for decades, while harmful sectors such as armamentsremain untouched - as do the assets of the rich. The current political debate is not about the issue of climateprotection. The removal of these agricultural support measures will notmake agriculture more ecological because it does not create any scopefor a shift in production towards less fuel use and, in fact, takes itaway. Various agricultural actors have tried to set an ecological coursein recent years, for example with the work of the Borchert Commissionand the Future Commission for Agriculture. All these suggestions havebeen ignored by various governments. For us, the current politicaldispute is above all an attempt to pass on the costs of the crisis tothe agricultural sector. We demand a clear reversal of the deletions!Unfortunately, various actors are now trying to turn the farmers'protest into a right-wing uprising to overthrow the traffic lightgovernment. We can't expect anything good from this in agriculture: Alook at the party program of some of these loudmouths makes it clearthat a possible election victory would not mean less but moreexistential hardship for us². Others try to distract from the billionsof taxpayers' money that are given to defense companies or billionaireslike Elon Musk³ by trying to turn us agricultural workers against theunemployed or refugees (often from agriculture themselves)4.We won't be stupid enough to let some pepperbags turn us against others. The protests that have been announced for the new year are to take placeat the same time as the strikes by the train drivers' union GdL and willdevelop their strength through precisely this interaction. We wish ourcolleagues from the railway all the best for their industrial action andwant to underline that we don't need new, inflated political leaders inagriculture, but precisely this mutual solidarity, this interactionbetween the working people. We therefore call on all trade unionists and all grassroots, left-wingforces in the country: concern themselves with the situation of thefarmers and support their protests. And we call on all farmers in thecountry to get involved with the labor disputes in other sectors and thesocial movements. The next time someone agitates against the strikingtrain drivers, remember how they agitate against our blockades and don'tlet it stand like that. Leave no room in the peasant protests for thosewho only want to use us as stirrup holders for the next anti-farmergovernment and who make a living out of dividing the working people. As trade unionists, we also state clearly: A fight for the future ofagricultural businesses can only be waged at the same time as a fightfor better working conditions in our industry. This particularlyincludes seasonal workers with and without papers. We advise allemployed, self-employed and unemployed colleagues to use the situationas an opportunity to organize themselves and to make the perspective ofagricultural workers heard in the protests.Initiative for green trades at FAU¹ Free Workers Union² In its basic program for agriculture, the AfD calls for "morecompetition, fewer subsidies" and wants to completely reduce EUagricultural subsidies.³ Up to 400 million euros from state and EU funds alone are going to thecontroversial Tesla factory in Grünheide, Brandenburghttps://www.zeit.de/wirtschaft/unternehmen/2020-02/tesla-subventionen-gruenheide-electromobility-elon-musk4 For example, the Bavarian FW politician Aiwanger told "Welt" on thesidelines of the recent protests in Berlinhttps://fda-ifa.org/solidaritaet-mit-baeuerinnenprotesten-und-gdl-streik/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
