we were recently informed about incidents of non-renewal of contracts by
EKETA to colleagues. Incidents which as we learned came out of nowhere,
shortly before their contracts ended, without having had any problem
with their work during their "partnership" with the center - something
that was also pointed out to them /s upon the announcement of their
dismissal. The only justification given in each case is that there are
no projects to work on. We find it difficult to accept this as fact in a
time when the center is announcing new projects every day, while a
number of existing projects are running - including projects in which
colleagues were already employed and/or could be employed. We also know
the actual work regime within the centre: rolling short-term contracts
that replace regular recruitment. A regime that has been valid for years
for many of us, who move between projects, change objects of employment,
even scientific field according to the needs that exist, without ever
being seen as what we really are, i.e. employees of the center. So it
makes us wonder what really caused the termination of these
"partnerships"...

What the majority of us EKETA workers experience is a state of constant
insecurity and absolute dependence on the moods of each boss. These
result from our flexible working relations with the center, where the
majority of us are employed with a Service Provision Certificate (SPC),
our short-term contracts, the lack of basic labor rights, the lack of a
Collective Labor Agreement. It is these conditions that make each and
every one of us expendable to the employer and give additional space to
our exploitation, to the intensification of our work and to incidents of
employer arbitrariness and terrorism.

Under these conditions we cover the permanent needs of EKETA. On top of
our efforts, the center attracts funding of millions, while at any time,
for any possible reason - for example, for the competitive attitude of
colleagues/equals, any protest about working conditions and its
intensification through authoritarian methods, etc. -, as everything is
subject to the "discretion" of the superiors, they can fire us. Of
course this can be done even without any pretext, keeping the
"pretexts", when our contracts just end. At the same time, no matter how
many years we have been in the center, after we are expelled we are not
entitled to an unemployment fund, nor even to any compensation.

Under these conditions, we workers must organize ourselves at the
grassroots, so that we have the power to prevent and fight against such
incidents, against the individual impasse, against the dispositions of
the bosses who treat us as expendable. Especially in a time of intense
impoverishment due to ever-increasing precision, our lives are
constantly degraded by a constant assault by state and capital, our
means of struggle are battered and our hard-won rights and conquests are
lost.

This condition cannot continue! Layoffs of our colleagues/equals are a
challenge!

  To organize, to claim:

No dismissal of a colleague!
Permanent and stable work for everyone.
Collective Labor Agreement that covers all employees of the center
regardless of the type of contract.
Abolish all forms of flexible work.
Salary increases in line with our needs!
