We do not forget - we do not condone the murder of Zack
Kostopoulos/Zackie-oh! ---- On Friday, January 12, the trial of the
murderers of Zak Kostopoulos continues in the second degree. On
12/15/2023, the opening day of the appeals court was set, which began
despite the abstention of the plenary session of the bar associations,
with the murderer's lawyer - Dimopoulos taking leave out of context and
without any information, as in second degree criminal trials it was
required that there be a prisoner or that the offense be time-barred.
The fact that none of the criteria were met, but also the insistence of
the bench to start the trial, even proposing the appointment of other
lawyers for those who were not licensed by their respective bar
association, demonstrates once again the methods attempted by the
beginning of this case to this day.

This is the case of the brutal murder of Jacques in Omonia in September
2018, who was lynched by a boss- jewelry store owner and a fascist with
a real estate agency in the area, with the participation of the police
in his murder, who beat him, arrest him and handcuffs him. In his face
they see an outcast, a poor man, a pariah, a life where the
state-capitalist system has legalized its extermination. From the
beginning the state staffs and the media mouthpieces of power have
attempted to silence the murder, to distort and falsify the truth.

The police, in their attempt to cover up the killers, initially file a
case file with summary procedures, where Jacques was recorded as a
robber who was killed trying to break free from the jewelry store, they
do not conduct any investigation, they do not look for evidence and
witnesses, they do not rule out the scene murder and leaves the jeweler
to clean up the crime scene. The media in full alignment with the state
apparatus reproduces this narrative, while from the moment the video of
Jacques' murder is released, they attempt to demonize the deceased and
his identity as HIV-positive, a member of the LGBTI community and an
activist, justifying the murder, shape consent terms and misinform.

The killers of Jacques, after the social pressure exerted, through the
demonstrations of thousands of people and the refusal of consent
expressed, are brought to trial, not with the charge of murder, but with
that of fatal bodily harm. The attempt of the state apparatuses to
support the killers and cover up their actions becomes even more obvious
from the first moment through a series of events, with the statements of
police chiefs in which they state that the protocol was applied, with
the absence of a conclusion from the EDE that were conducted, with the
long-term interrogation process during which the police refused to
respond to the presentation of evidence and with the then ND MP and
later health minister Th. Pleuris taking on the defense of the uniformed
killers.

During the trial we witnessed the operation to exonerate the state and
parastatal killers of Zack with the prosecutor's motion to acquit the
cops who beat Zack's bloodied and handcuffed body and the refusal to
change the charge from fatal injury to manslaughter for the
Dimopoulo-Hortaria murderers. We do not forget the parade of murderers
and their rhetoric in a - essentially - closed-door trial, where Jacques
himself was "tried", witnesses, observers and advocates of the civil
suit were threatened.

Today, more than 5 years since the brutal murder of Jacques in broad
daylight in the center of Athens, his killers are walking free with
light restrictive conditions. The cops who killed Jacques are acquitted,
Dimopoulos is serving his sentence under house arrest and Hortarias, two
months after the conviction, is released from prison with restrictive
conditions. This particular murder is a result of the institutionalized
brutality of the regime, the legalized violence towards those who are
characterized by the state-capitalist-patriarchal system as surplus
populations, to those who resist by fighting against it.

As anarchists we fight for the sharpening of social and class
resistance, with the aim of overthrowing the political and economic
bosses who are responsible for exploitation, oppression, poverty,
impoverishment, social cannibalism. With solidarity as our weapon, we
stand against the false divisions and the fear that power constantly
reproduces. Until the building of a world that accommodates us all.
