Friday 8 December. Eighteen years have passed since the days of
insurrection which culminated with the retaking of the land militarily
occupied by the police on the night between 5 and 6 December 2005. From

In recent years a lot of water has passed under the bridges of the Dora.
In Clarea and San Didero, construction sites were opened, enclosed by
walls and barbed wire, defended by police, carabinieri and soldiers.
The high-speed line between Turin and Lyon is a useless, harmful,
devastating project, suitable only for draining public money for very
private purposes, to satisfy the bi-partisan cement and rod lobby.
The long struggle against the violent imposition of the TAV has never
stopped, despite the harsh repression.
Over a thousand people have ended up in the sights of the judiciary,
accused of occupations, blockades and sabotage to hinder the work, to
make the utopia of canceling a project now in its executive phase even
more concrete.
Unfortunately there have also been serious strategic errors, such as the
blank delegation that ended in a Five Star scam, and the illusion of a
long-lasting struggle, the concentration on impregnable construction
sites, giving up on making the entire territory ungovernable, as
happened in the formidable months between spring and winter of 2005.
For us, being on the march once again was an opportunity to remember
that only popular direct action was able, even if briefly, to break the
bank, to truly stop the TAV.
But memory, if it does not return to trigger new paths of struggle,
certainly cannot be enough.
The next few months will be crucial.
The government has decided to raise the bar of repression.
On 21 November, Digos notified a seizure order of the No Tav garrisons
of San Didero and the Mills in Clarea.
The pretext given by the investigating judge is that the two garrisons
would be the logistical base for actions against the militarized
construction sites in front of which they were built.
Since the spring of 2005 when those in Bruzolo, Borgone and Venaus were
opened, the No Tav garrisons have been places of meeting, discussion,
socializing and fighting. The places where an inclusive community builds
paths to freedom and social justice.
The seizure of the garrisons is only the last piece of a long repressive
mosaic of which the subalpine judiciary is the protagonist.
In San Didero the seals were broken several times and the usual
activities of the No Tav continued, although with greater technical
difficulties and various additional complaints. At the Mills the seizure
coincided with an expansion of the construction site to make this
already difficult to reach outpost completely harmless between barbed
wire and the slope of the gorge.
The evening before the march on 8 December in Bruzolo, a town bordering
San Didero, an abandoned factory was occupied for three days, to have a
space in which to host meetings and initiatives.
On the evening of December 9th, the orange nets that closed the San
Didero garrison under seizure were torn down and hung on the fence of
the autoport construction site. The police fired tear gas, the
demonstrators threw firecrackers and fireworks.
The government, which is preparing to present its new security package
to parliament, is determined to prevent any space for concrete struggle:
long years of detention await those who block a road, resist an
eviction, write a sign on a barracks, defend themselves by the violence
of the police, who, day after day, attack with increasing brutality
those who fight against the intolerable world in which we are forced to
live.
